truck
Before I ask, this is not intended to offend anyone or to get into a childish brand loyalty war, just facts of the circumstances I've dealt with, and a few honest questions. Im a big toyota fan, ive grown up around them and not a single one has ever let me down. however, Im in the market for a truck with some big power, and I cannot afford the new tundra, that would be my first choice. Now, I know the dodge trucks make good power and I am a cumins fan, but every dodge truck that I personally have dealt with has been a giant pile of crap.....like strand me on the side of the road, tranny locked up, revving out of control ect.....so, to this point, I do not trust the quality of dodge at all......(keep in mind I have never dealt w a cummins truck) I wanted some feedback on anyone who has a 1990s dodge truck, id only look at a cummins, but my thought/concern is, you take that bulletproof motor, and put all that power through the tranny and drivetrain that have given me soooooo many problems. Feedback is very appreciated.

Get an ecoboost. Beats the tundra in towing and power. And as for diesel id say get a duramax or 6.4 or 6.7 or 7.3 ford

If you do enough and sizable loads go with a medium duty truck with a diesel. I may suggest international with a dt-466 and a 7 speed if you have a MN. class a license. If you only have a class d license I would go for a chevy c-60 with a 4-53 Detroit diesel and you'll get close to 18 mpg with hydrolic brakes and being under 26,000 lbs gvw..

Is that detroit diesel a two stroke?? I vaguely remember hearing about that motor....
-
Jennija, yes these are 2 stroke motors. They are very reliable, and do great mileage.

What about the new titan with Cummins
-
I cannot afford a new truck, or I'd get a Tundra
-
I dont see how you are talking about a new turdra then go all the way back to a 90's model dodge lol.I would get a 1994-1998 cummins ram 2500 or 3500 in good shape and it should last you for a long time while getting great fuel mileage.

thanks, I'm saying that because toyota is my favorite brand, and I love the new tundra, but i cant afford anything near that expensive and I need good power and was just wondering about people that have had the older cummins trucks, because well like I said my luck with Dodge has not been good thus far haha

Yeah i wouldnt get a detroit. I work on them all day, big oil leaking piles of crap. Plenty of power tho. Since you dont want to dodge, theres alot of ford trucks with cummins swaps out there. In my opinion the perfect truck.

yes! I would love that!! a fummins:) Im mainly an import guy but I love ford, got a mustang gt sittinG out in the driveway along with the fleet from japan.

I've had Dodge trucks as old as 1974 and as new as 1999, Cummins and gas powered and they've all been great to me...I currently have a 96 cummins 4x4 and a 99 5.2 5 speed gasser. 5 speed is preferable since the automatic tranny's aren't always great, especially on the half tons.
