Free Metal!! Helping a Neighbor Out

So my neighbor's house is being foreclosed on and I am going to help sell items to help her pay for an apartment. This includes reel to reels, a car, industrial freezer, air hockey table, and some other stuff. Anyway, her ex left 2 boats (no engines) about 3 years ago in the backyard. She planned on just leaving them but I mentioned I could strip off the metal and she said "If you want to, have at it!". I've looked at them and mainly it is aluminum and SS parts. Fiberglass hulls so those will stay. Also hoping some of the parts may be sell-able, help get her some extra money.

What was wrong with the boats? Are they on trailers? Might be best to get 50 or a hundred off of CL than to try the scrap metal route.
If that wasn't your plan, if the parts aren't too badly tarnished or corroded, they might also sell on Ebay or even a yard sale

The boats have been sitting, uncovered, with no engines, for the past 3+ years. They're on trailers but they're just rotting into the ground. Honestly if you tried to move one of them it would probably snap in half

I would put them up on CL, $50-$100 each.

Somebody will pay you good money for them...even the trailers are worth something....double axle and all.

Only problem is there is a foot of frozen snow and they are way in the back yard so you can't access them and she has to be out by 28th, hopefully it will melt before then

If you can get them out, or heck even if you can't. I'd still throw up an add on CL for them. I see folks do that all the time here on the sandbar for little boats like that. All banged up, etc. They do sell. Same with the trailers. Always someone looking for a boat trailer, even if needing some fixing up. A buddy down here bought a boat like one of those, been sitting, etc. He put some work into it, now has a nice little boat to take out on the sound for some fishing/crabbing/relaxing.

Never know till you try. Make sure you hit surrounding areas, an places near water or with a high fishing population. Your junk just may be that project some body was looking for.

Put in the ad - "Needs digging out from snow". Some people won't mind a little work.

That's how you cultivate good karma. Just today after picking up some food from the store, saw a guy in a parking lot with his alarm just going and going. He had the hood up and he looked pretty frustrated. I pulled off the road, head over to him and told him to turn the key in the passenger door. It solved all his problems in that instance.

Would they still be interested if the tires are all shot. I think the single axle ones are in betterish shape but the double ones are terrible

someone who deals with tires, boats, or trailers might, you'll never know till you toss the ad up there. Start at a 100 each, and if they want it for 50, they'll still be thinking they got a real deal ; )

Do yourself a favor and look thru the boat section on CL. Things like the out drive on that yellow boat should be an easy sell. The controls tend to sell as would the swim platform on the yellow one. Good luck with it.

We cleaned out the garage/shed today and she let me have all this! Kerosene heater, compressor, car fan, misc. car/camper parts, 4 foot or so copper pipe, weedwacker, router table, and a few cords from cb's (cut unfortunately).

Lol, that's how one year I gave away a 26 ft sail boat .No trailer must pick up.

A teen got the boat with his mom's permission and she got it moved. Anything for a client and mankind. We can all benefit . I used cl .Free section.

Help is not profitable. It's effective.

I put em on for free and STILL no interest. She can just leave em there so that's probably what will end up happening

Last resort drop at a landfill. Also go by a boat yard and ask questions.

Boat yards like car scrap yards. I rode by one asked alot of questions. Got tips and free metal. I met a nice guy I'll never forget. Love good people. It's all business. Spread it around. 1scrap.
Ps. Order a yard can and load it up. Going to the dump or better yet call your municipal (we have bulk trash... The name .) And ask what they recommend. All fails use super brain power and find a solution. No scrap is bigger than a man. Prevail. Your pride is at stake. Complete the job. No sweat. Work safe.

Folks down here use stuff like that to repair or for lawn decoration. IF they were smaller I'd tell you try the decoration angle.

Did you post to surrounding areas? Never hurts to branch out. Let them come get up so no worry on gas on your end, etc.

An...Steel's idea is good also, if they can't be moved fast enough, or try parting like the others said.
