Hey everyone
got a DIY gut rehab going on in Chicago here, my future dream home and first home.
have some down time while I wait on permit red tape to go through, so i'm going to start digging into the pile of pipes, random metal, and lots and lots of wiring i have in the basement.
just want to buy a couple cases of beer really

so i'm searching stripping wire
I have alot of 8 gauge copper wire, is it worth it to strip it? I actually enjoy doing it sometimes while just sitting on the front stoop resting from demolition work or watching a ball game at night.
but it seems like many people say by and large its not worth doing
This might make it go a little faster.Google "home made wire stripper" and you'll have all kinds to pick from and the price is right.

Welcome from Massachusetts. I did a reno in my kitchen recently and scrapped every bit.
took about 100 lbs of window sash weights in this morning, since I have a small scrap place half a mile from my house, just to see if they were iron or lead.
they called it steel
$195/ton
so I got a bit under 9.50.
I think I might try to sell some on E-bay, got them in 6,8,11 lb varieties. My wife is an artist and she wants some for who knows what. Might make an anchor for my "future" boat
any Chicago scrappers use United Scrap Metal in Al Capone's old Cicero, Il stomping grounds.
went there today to drop off some copper, aluminum, steel, and random wirings that weren't worth it to me to strip.
one of the workers actually took the time to pull a few pounds of #1 insulated out of my 20 lbs of #2 insulated pile to help me make a bit more $ and explain the difference to me.
its a very big yard, and mostly everyone speaks spanish and so I feel kind of lost and intimidated when i'm there. so I've avoided this place when I have non ferrous in the past. but this was a good experience. just looked them up on google and found this fun video
