Help me please...

So I picked up a large load of free e-scrap the other day off of craigslist and am trying to understand what I am doing. After searching through the archives for a couple of hours my brain is now numb. I have 48 hard drives that I have started taking the board off of and the motor out of (which I should do right?). 12 computer cd players (Also took the board off of , should I try for anything else) and 6 CPUs (which again I'm starting to remove the boards from). Then I was also given a box of fans and some misc. boards. I have started to separate the boards out... hopefully rightly and am trying to sell them now. This is the only place I have found in the OKC (or Oklahoma for that matter) that buys e scrap. Are their prices ok or should I go through the forum like I'm leaning towards. And before selling the boards that I just pulled out, do I take any transistors, capacitors chips, or heat sinks off or will that reduce the board grade? What about the clips, ends and gold looking pins? Or again will that reduce the value. Sorry for all the questions I'm just trying to get introduced into the e-scrap going through the archives everyone seems to have a different opinion on everything. And if I can get this to make some decent money maybe I can focus on e-scrap since no one else seems to be.

I would not use that buyer , look on the buyers sellers thread for someone local or ship it out to receive a much better payday.
Each buyer will have diffrent requirements on how they pay for boards . So find a buyer that suites you and ajust to his requirements .

Those are literally the worst prices I have ever seen, and not just for E scrap.

I knew their regular scrap prices where junk but didnt know about the ewaste. I cant find any buyers on the forum that are local and am looking at shipping it out to Mudlucky

I agree those prices are horrendous. steel/lt iron is literally not worth the trip unless you have a **** ton

I agree with every one, those are the lowest prices I have ever saw. That's why in a past tread I said you must deal with a couple of yards. One thing that I must ask why would you sell your goods for those prices? This has to be a small feeder yard that deals with mostly home owners. No scraper in there right mind would sell there.

You will find that some of the buyers who are on the forum will assist you with arranging for shipping.

You may want to consider selling hard drives whole to one of our buyers. I'm not saying this is or is not the best way to go but you should look into it before going to far.

Of course if you had put in a lot of time in reading the threads you would already know the answers to these and many other questions. Mike.

Reason i would sell to them is just escrap i get much better else where for other material just dont have any where else to take the boards and fans

Thanks for posting that price list, reminded me to buy sodas for the crew at my scrap yard. When I saw those copper and brass prices, I had to go check the spot market. Thought maybe I missed something, not so actually prices up a little. That place should be on rip-off alert status and you should avoid them period. I'm sure you could do better in any category of scrap. I agree with 56 you should always have at least two yards your selling to. Then track the prices you receive on a spread sheet. Wasn't long after I started doing that, I noticed even good yards pay different. One might do more volume with aluminum, so they can pay better. Another yard might be more efficient handling copper, paying more for that. You want a yard that knows the "market" the yard you referenced is low on everything. I think that is the first time I have seen that on this site. Usually when a member here post prices, they are in the same "ballpark", some higher and some lower. As almost everyone so far has said their prices are low, makes me think there's problem's with that yard!

Might be cause your posting from your phone, but that last post made no sense to me. Are you saying you'd only sell to this yard for ewaste as you need an outlet for boards an fans?

Why would take those crappy prices for convenience sake? You could do better selling to a buyer on here, even with shipping. Assuming it's not all brown/low grade boards. Now mind you, I'm sure others are talking about the other prices to, but I know I'm laughing at their electronic pricing. .15lb for a no board HD? We have buyers here who pay .50lb with no board.

Don't get me going on all the rest. We have a buyer for fans, we have a buyer for boards, we have buyers for every part on those computers quite possibly!

Look at those differences in pricing. You see why a lot of us use the buyers here. It's not cause we're idiots an can't get local pricing. We can get it...we just can't get the prices like the buyers here offer. Strike that...some of us can, an some of us can't. No buyer near me locally, so I ship out. I'm quite pleased with the results.

Now again look at the pricing for that yard on the electronics an then look at the pricing again I listed. You can do the math and see why we're all telling you to go else where to sell your ewaste.

I'd hate to see what they pay for a HD board, being as the buyers here are paying close to or above 10.00 a lb.

Either way I wish you luck, with that said...if you use this yard knowing their pricing an having been pointed in a better direction...your choosing to make a mistake many of us wish we didn't. Throwing money away.

Now maybe i can talk that yard into selling the boards to me, and using those to help off set my shipping costs... Hmmm I like that idea if they would sell my their hard drive boards for $4lb

ahh..I see your in OKC. Buyer in CO and one in OH both are reasonably close as the fedex/ups bird fly.

I ship from a sandbar as far east you can get..an my pricing on shipping isn't bad at all.

By all means talk to them about selling you the boards, just don't over play your hand. (read that as..Don't share to much info!) As 1956 or John said..(I forget which, sorry guys)"The answer will always be no if you don't ask."

Sirscrapalot - Crap, I'm being helpful again. Someone make it stop!

I just sent 60 lbs of mixed stuff to Ohio from Georgia for $23 and change. It isn't too bad, and cheaper than I could drive it anywhere that would pay right. I'm still dealing in smaller quantities, so hoping to up my game through referrals. Like you, also debating the "breakdown vs. sell whole" situation with regard to drives, etc.

Should also mention that the Ohio folks are great to work with, answer my dumb questions with kindness (& not mockery), and I have a check in the mail within 3-4 days.
