I thought there would be at least one high grade board in this thing. It was a gateway2000 and I attached a picture of all the good stuff.
It was a pretty quick process considering it was my first time breaking one of these down.
Do people regularly scrap these things or do they just swipe the cord and trash it? Will a scrap yard take the monitor as is?

Looking at what you got from that monitor I would, and do, scrap every one I come across. Aluminum, stainless, and copper, always worth the extra time.
Don't know of any hi grade boards in monitors or tube tv's, usually just brown boards which are worth .18 lb to me.
Sometimes (1 in 10) you'll find gold pins or gold transistors in the old ones. Recycle the tubes responsibly.
You still have transformers, coils, (tape covered) and an IC to pull.
Looks like you did a good job of getting more money by breaking it down. Call your local yard to see if they take what is left; mine charges to take them. Best Buy will take 3 per day per person so strip off the good stuff, put the cover back on, and drop them off.
Every now and then I'll find a small mid-grade board soldered to the brown board in a CRT monitor. It's usually around the size of a credit card.Quote:

It's not worth .28 cents, but some of us are busting tail an getting paid a measly .08lb for shred..think I better call that person from texas who asked for scrap. ;)

If you find it worth your time, keep it up. You can do alright with monitors an TV's if you have a way to dispose of the glass, without being charged. An if you do, good on you.
Some folks are cool with dealing with monitors an TV's. Some....aren't. I do enjoy a tv or monitor now an then. I get them for free a lot of the time, or have folks dropping them off when I'm not here. Nothing like coming home to several huge ass crt tv's an assorted sizes of tube monitors.
Your money will come from the yokes, an degaussing cables.(The stuff in electrical tape). The wire, boards, etc will all add up. If your yard takes low grade brown boards at lest. Mine just pays shred for them. It's all good, just more weight for the shred pile when I go. I remove the flybacks, an heat sinks of course, and any an all wire. The ferrite, the metal stuff around the yoke is also for the shred pile. Will add some weight if you get enough tv's an monitors.

An for the record...only YOU can put a value on YOUR time. What may not be worth it to me, may be worth it to you, an all that good stuff. As one of my favorite sayings go...YMMV.
