Windowed processor and board grading

Wondering what category these windowed processors would fall under??

Also the boards associated would seem to me high grade or even motherboard?
of course buyer makes the ultimate call, but just looking for a rough estimate for sorting purposes

Those are DPL chips they are worth keeping and checking eBay on too if they work.
I am interested in the part between the board and the chip what dose it look like. Sometimes that is where all the gold is like on pinless Sun servers and IBM too.

It is easily removable and does hold all the gold connecting pins. The board has the white tape over the contact spots like many higher end contacts... xbox controllers and so forth

I have a couple boxes full of similar equipment. I am now going through them a little quicker than when I started lol:D

do you have pictures of what it came out of. I have only gotten one DLP processor in my scrapping around town adventures years ago and would like to accumulate more if I could :D

They are coming out of the half gutted carcasses of what I presume to be older HD projectors.
They came incomplete with cords cut, outer case and pieces missing. I can say that from the source i get this stuff that the reusable parts have been taken and whats left is scrap. Also a good chance it is professional equipment or at least high end quality.

Yes, Projectors indeed have them. same with rear projection TV's.

So there's your tip for the day folks..next time someone tells you there is gold in a tv...there really just might be. ;)

Those DLP chips are their own grade @ $28 a lb.....

Weigh it, I'd like to see what one weighs.

I have never found one so far, and only scrapped two rear projection tvs (not the crt sort) to find a array of lenses and 3 LCD windows.

Boardsort.com has prices for escrap.

After finally wrastlin it out of the glue and metal case, the chips weigh in at a massive .8 oz
The non windowed brothers that I cannot get off the little steel piece is coming in at a whopping 1.43 oz

If you had left it on the board it would be the same catergory as my digital camera boards, almost 4/lb.

it basically fell off the board when I unsandwiched the mess
if i remember right it went steel /board/ steel/ gold connector piece/ steel glued to processor and another piece of steel with small hole for heat sink on top.
so to leave the chip on this board it comes with at least two pieces of steel or it's loose without them. the connector has a single plastic pin (in pic) that sits in a hole to keep it in place and the processor seemed stable because it was sandwiched between the steel pieces and screws to keep it tight. oh yeah and they glued all the contact points of steel to steel and all over the screws... so much.. so much glue.

The non windowed with pins are different and could be left on the board with only 1 piece of steel that is super mega glued to the fiber chip. But of course those boards aren't quite as nice as the windowed DPL boards:)

They are nice finds.

An NH you have the right of it of how it comes out. really no taking apart required for them.

If you snap that little base Etack was asking about, those little gold pins will fall right on out. I found this out the hard way. An yes their very hard to find in carpet. LOL

Sirscrapalot - The Incredible Edible Egg!

I decided to resurrect an old thread instead of starting a new one.

I found my first DLP chip yesterday WOOT

A guy only a few blocks down from me had it posted on CL for free so i decided to go grab it. I had all the boards and lens out in under 5 mins. Another 5 to clean up the boards and find the chip. A quick trip to the Tip yard to toss the carcass and this is what i was left with :

I do have a question, i looked for a definitive answer but seem to be missing it... what would these boards be graded as? High grade ? Small socket motherboard? both? neither?

The chip is going in my collection but any others in the future i find, I will sell. Thanks for looking and any comments.

Hard to tell in this pic but I am pretty sure I see some tantalum on the front of the larger board...maybe on the smaller too. Those would be the little back rectangles with the grey colored top 1/4 of it. I always pull those when I have time. Never had downgraded my boards and those run about $30/lb I think it was.

Yep, there are around 30 large black tantalum caps on that large board. I'm hesitant to pull them in case that downgrades the board. If i could get more confirmation that it wont downgrade, ill go ahead and pop them off. Also, im still wondering on the grading of these boards. At some point ill have to shoot a message to one of the buyers. I have around 30+ mobos i need to send out soon.

I personally have never been downgraded, BUT YMMV. I typically ONLY pull the black/yellow tantalum ones and MAYBE if I see a few large MLCC's (I just keep those and will send them in one day for the platinum...by themselves they are only worth $4/lb LOL). Other than that, I do not pull anything else and they always have been fine. I do not pull IC chips unless they are socketed...ROI just isn't enough and it WILL get you downgraded if you cut all those off.

Always fun to squeeze a bit more out of one when the time to do it makes sense.
