Hello Scrappers,
As many of you know steel prices have plummeted, also other materials have seen a significant drop as well.
Is it time to quit? Is this the writing on the wall were supposed to notice?volume
Down markets can bring opportunity as well as doom.
I am looking for opportunity in form of, volume, partnerships, and abandoned scrap accounts.
I also considered getting more into other services like junk removal, delivery biz, and lift gate services.
Anyone else want to share ideas?
I'd thought about doing that myself, there is money to be made just not as much as before.Quote:

Exactly! And it is amazing how expensive some of these parts are "new" I figure if I can test them and they work i sell them with a 90 day warranty and everyone is happy.
My son picked up a nice, free, working stainless steel LG dishwasher. The reason the guy got rid of it - his wine glasses wouldn't fit in the top rack.Quote:

with all these bright ideas, theres one thing that needs to be factored in:
space
many scrappers just dont have the space to store/hold stuff until they get a buyer for it.
so they have no option but to just strip whatever goodies are there & take the carcass in as shred or steel
its obvious that a person will earn more if they can repair & sell an item
or they can hold on until they find someone who needs whatever they have- and this person is prepared to pay good $ for it.
yes msmoorad I agree space is a factor. I do have space to hold store strip etc. I am using a space at my house that is 27by 27 feet garage. a 25 by 75 feet driveway and a 16 by 25 dump pad 4 feet deep. honestly I just happened to get lucky with the church. the story behind the church. i was driving home from the store and decided to turn down a different road. I saw a sign that said free taped to a ladder, with that I asked the pastor are all these items free (a parking lot worth of goodies) he said yes, so I went looking and found 3 truck loads of metal (wires, a/c, bbq and so on) the pastor and I started talking he explained how they collect items for sale (estate cleanouts) and found out they had a crt tv problem. which opened the door for me to remove more metal with that I told the pastor about the rubbish removals I do and it lead to what I said in the above post. the free part happens after the yard sale.
if anything I am hoping this could help people with not only scrap but a way to help save money on taxes and have people look or find a better way that works for them or show a direction maybe not explored. for myself this website has helped me better maximize my scrap profit (currently building volume) .
