Freezer Converted to a Storage Locker...Will it Fly?

I was informed by my customer that this thing was toast and not worth repairing. Medical freezer that was once capable of extremely low temps. It had a platform on the bottom that housed two large compressors and a coil. I took that off and put the wheels back on. It's about 34" square and 5ft tall.

Has a heavy duty latch with lock (no key but replaceable) also has a place for a heavy duty padlock on the latch. One large compartment inside with doors covering each adjustable stainless steel shelf. Even with compressors removed it still weighs about 250-300 pounds, but currently only has a scrap value of about $20.

Had to take the bottom platform off anyway so basically just have about 15 minute labor putting the wheels back on. I could probably sell the latch, hinges, shelves and wheels but thought I might try as a storage locker first. What do you think??? I'm a big boy so let 'er rip...

I should add that this would be to sell not to keep.

You could fit a helluva lot of beer in there.

Could probably repair and sell for a lot more than you could get use out of it, people pay a lot for freezers if they hunt or so on

Presumably no cooling now? Any fans in the cabinet that can circulate air within the cabinet?

You could advertise it as a cheese aging cabinet...I was just reading up on that...cheese needs a cool area but not cold...like 60F. Someone could run cold water through the evaporator tubes to cool it a little without having to get all techie by reconnecting a fridge compressor.

Without cooling its a fancy insulated cabinet. I wonder if it may sweat inside?

Gun safe? Lockable tool cabinet?

No interior fans...the pedestal (removed now) that it sat on contained all the cooling parts. Two large compressors, coil and a bunch of copper tubing. I should have taken a pic of that before breaking it down. Could possibly make a smoker out of it.

I saw the shelving an thought you had another corpse chiller. I had a post an everything with jokes going in that direction, I wisely chose not to use that one.

Hell man, try it. People collect funky things. You know this.

Make a cool an unique storage to the right person. Man cave, or some other use. Bombshelter storage for a prepper? Storage spot for all that legal pot in Colorado? Hell..muchie safe! Never worry about your doritos an oreos going missing again! An yes I'd market it that way. LOL.

Wouldn't fly on my sandbar but it's not legal here. I could see a lot of uses. An no I don't want it. Shipping would be a *****. :)

Sirscrapalot - Enjoys the weird an odd fridges Kz comes up with.

Tear the door off, fill it with ice, throw on some casters and sirscrapsalot has another cooler. Might need more than his hands to pull that one though.

I'd buy a tow hitch, just for it.

Who needs a silly trailer, when you could have such a kick ass cooler.

(Gimmie back a way to cool the contents without costing me a ton of money for ice an I'd reconsider the shipping. ;) )

if the locking mechanism still worked I would pay for it as an ammo locker. I got kids so I always keep the ammo locked up. unfortunately I am about 2000 miles away and something of that heft would be very expensive to ship. but lets talk it does look roomier than what I am using now.

It's a nice looking freezer but I can't help but wonder what's been inside. Hopefully it wasn't used to store "deposits" made at a special "bank" or worse.

Not sure what it was used for...it is spotless inside and smells like a spring breeze. I think it was used for medicine that needed to be stored at extreme cold temps...that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

old fashioned freezer fridge combo put block of ice in top and bottom and use it that way should last a few weeks at a time or more that way

How about selling it to a self employed doctor. Just make sure they can't trace it back to you

Guy worked for years ago had an old fridge/ freezer he converted to a hot/dry box for welding rods.

Its was a Norge if your old enough to remember them. Unfortunately iam!

I have a fridge I converted to a lockable storage for my processing chemical cabinet. the freezer side is for one type the cooling side for another so there is no chance of accidental spill and contamination. I also have 2 IBM rack mount cabinets 5' wx 7'hx 4'd I use for lockable tool cabinets. it would take a torch to get into them. I use server lids as shelves.

Sold for a C-note today.
