Ewaste tips Lets start a conversation about what to do with analog tvs

Lets hammer this out. The lead funnel glass and screen etc. Not enough lead for batt smelters to care, to many other bad things to just keep forgetting about.

I see in the news millions of dollars left in a warehouse after the owners sold all the gold. Please we all know the low grade boards and wood case isnt worth crap.

tell the story right. They charged a fortune to recycle properly and just lied. Sin its problem.

What can be done. I see them everywhere the tvs. In woods at yards in scrap yards in rivers.

If I charge a customer to take I am paying to hope a guy will not export or just trash. You know. I dislike the whole deal with these and they are everywhere.

THe old tvs use to be recycled properly in the states because guess what we still made and sold this type of tv in our country.

I dont know how to turn around Americas import everything cheap and limited life span problem and iM broke so I depend on cheap junk that I know will fail soon....

The glass can be using in concrete for many applications. Google hard concrete. Totally viable many universities have done studies and it makes sense. I see wheel weights all over the road. Like millions of pounds each year on our streets and thats 100 percent lead. The tvs are like 3 percent right so mixing the glass in highway concrete barriers is smart. Plus your car is leaking lead and coolant and oil everywhere on to tar (carcinogen)anyways. Right. I dont know if asphalt is bad for me? SOmeone can answer that right.

Check out the Basel action network. Its eye opening. I need to feed my family and so do they and many of us dont know how bad this stuff is and were going to die anyways.

I recycle lead acid batteries. I need to work and do it safe but I know not working is a faster way to die by not eating than being worried about a battery falling and killing me. lol. No it not funny lead has a very interesting wiki page if your ever bored. Or the civilan nuclear accident page.

Whats not funny about the civilan nuclear page is how often scrap or scrapper is mentioned. Like almost always. Really scary.

But what do we do with the tvs.

Lets get this fourm like really feeding us. I want to feed my kids. You have the answers I need to my problems and maybe I have some ideas to help you. This country was founded on men and women trusting each other and handshaking a deal that helps everyone out!!

Now we are taught dog eat dog your screwed anyways break the rules to make money because everyone is !!

I say no lets trust each other and help eachother. Greed and sin get no where. I trust the lord and want to find ways to help others and for this Ill be blessed.

Lets fix this tv idea and make cash.

If you know somone who does concrete like a shot caller ask him. Google it lead tv screens in hard concrete.

Only a very small portion of the CRT glass can be used in construction aggregates, there is no portion of the CRT glass that is lead free so its not really the solution. Another company is working on a technique that afters processing the glass is rendered into a mine-able cell from which lead can be extracted in the future as technology improves. However, it is still a kick the can down the road approach and a pray for the best. Its beginning to seem the only way to deal with these CRTs is to process them expensively. This is a testament to what poor planning, there was no contingency plan for when the technology became obsolete and the recycling loop of leaded glass was broken. My fears is we will see a similar dilemma with LCD TVs and monitors as they contain mercury in their CCFL bulbs of which a shredder-based system misses half of the mercury and manual break down is too costly.

These are questions everyone has. Sorry to say your not going to change the world and how people deal with stuff like this. There's obviously solutions but it all comes down to cost vs benefit. dumping these in landfills may hurt in the future but people could care less. This has been talked about a million times. Good thing they no longer make tube televisions and the circulation of them is ending at a very fast rate.

Glass is a slow moving liquid , not ideal for backfill . Now oyster shells I have filled many a retaining wall with . Also concrete is not forever so leeching would be inevitable

IF the Gooberment would have spent 100 billion of the 700 billion of your money and your grand kids money on this problem instead of giving it to Banksters the problem would be solved along with several others.

I think Admin should put CRT's on the list of things we are not allowed to talk about.

There are hazardous waste landfills made for stuff like CRTs.

my idea was a plasma arc furnace to solve the problem for the most part along with many others still costly though but if solar roadways, parking lots hold true to the testing as they have done so far in parts of the world it may be possible to solve a lot of problems not of the world that's were the government makes their money but solve my trash and crt problems locally lol

I kind of think of these things a little differently. The lead wasn't created by human beings. People dug it up out of the ground, so what is wrong with putting it back in the ground?

The company I worked for a few summers in college recycles the glass as part of recycling lead acid batteries. But they can only blend so much into the blast furnace at a time. They have years and years worth already sitting around.

It can't be that big of a deal or the Gov. would have created big processing plants to accept all the TV's when we switched to digital... When CRV's were still being made places did recycle them into new CRV's. Now no outlet for them so they got to do something.... I sold a CRV tv at my yard sale for $5 guy was from Mexico and guess what old TV's still work there! Next war we get in to drop a bunch of CRV's on them...

Similar lines of thought has been said about the CO2 produced by fossil fuel combustion. Lead when first found in deposits is trapped as ore but now we've removed it from its original resting place. The lead can now come in contact with drinking water sources thousands of miles away from the original site where it was excavated. There lies the issue

ANyone bother to google it. I have to admit Im a little surprised no one thinks we can change the world. I figure the responses are from people in ewaste. Im a for profit recycler. I must turn away trailer loads of tvs easy each month or two. Why people dont want to pay to recycle them properly. THis is a huge deal here not a little issue that can just be swept under the table. Well If your into ewaste recycling as a business you must fall asleep at night thinking some way you can make a killing with crt. Look they are everywhere and no one wants to deal with them.

I wont source historical stuff that people thought nothing one person could change and it changed the world......

Look the crt glass they are using in concrete is the leaded one. They are crushing it to meet a standard already meet with another type of rock, it will save 5 percent on the concrete end too. THats a huge energy savings if you think of all concrete made in the USA.
The answer is out there in someones head to the crt problem but I hear you we all feel helpless. You can change the world.

If you like old am tube radios like the abc and get shocked because they ground on chassis too bad you should know better. I dont like to see ac lines cut or oil tipped out on a scrap yard or a radiator leak 1 cc of coolant but if someone does it the best they can and or if a mistake happens thats what **** luck is for, but the laws are changing so hard now to cover all the idoits out there you wont be able to pay your bills anymore doing scrap as a one many show . You will be waiting in line at walmart hoping to get a job for min wage. Then try to pay the bills.

We got band together here. Another yard I know is down because of somethign epa again. Where is all this stuff getting processed now in the back yard of some dude in the woods. LOL Actually not funny.

CO2 seems rather different to me. That involves people taking carbons from the ground and putting it into the air. The lead thing involves taking lead from the ground and putting back in the ground. The location is slightly different, but so what? If the lead is dangerous in the ground then it was dangerous from the start. It doesn't make sense to only start fearing it after people are done with it.

Requires chemicals like nitric acid , and once again glass is a liquid and would erode any foundation it was used in over time . I would never use it for that purpose . Foundations need to be solid to hold .

Maybe if all of us reach out and place our hands on our computer monitors and concentrate real hard all of our CRT problems will be solved.

I say charge $5, $6, maybe even $7 more for every new TV or desktop computer that people buy to go towards government funded recycling centers. Every state dump, landfill, and curbside pick-up could start accepting them free of charge. What's $5 to $10 more for a TV? This is a purchase that most of us only make every 5-8 year's. I hate big brother getting bigger, but this is an economics problem; it's a high risk low reward business for recycling these TVs. Not very many business want to touch it. We need big brother on this one.

One of the issues with that is with people who build their own PC, or use a local shop. For TVs, there aren't many "local shops", but I doubt that a Mom-and-Pop computer store would want to assess the charge. The other is making sure that the government used the money properly. We all know how greed can change a well-intentioned plan ;)

The third issue is e-commerce. eBay and Amazon are a completely different world- especially if you order from an international seller....

Leave it in the basement until you need an old reliable CRT, when the new fancy stuff becomes obsolete or broken and unrepairable. I've picked up 30 year old TVs that still work. My flatscreen monitor is old and tired at 5 years.
