The yellow flies are out 1111111111111111111

got at least five bites today, for those of you who have had the priveladge of never encountering a yellow fly, let me explain.

to get to the bottom line, one of two results is certain when encountering a yellow fly. you are going to kill it or it is going to bite you.

the fly looks like a cross between a house fly and a horse fly and as the name emplys it is yellow with larger then normal wings. putting a fan up wont protect you.

if it finds you, it WILL find a way to biteyou. you can't run to the house, It WILL Follow you.

the bite is not like normal you won;t know you have been bitten for about 10/15 minuets,

the result of a bite is like the worst mosquito bite x 100 usually on the hands fingers or legs.

I have found nothing to stop the itch.

It will leave a sore for up to 6 months.

So all you guys/gals in the south there BAAAAAAck.

Sounds nasty!!! We used to have "sand" flies along the river beach at Scout Camp that would bite pretty good.

Just keep it in perspective old dude. In the Amazon, there are bugs that fall on you from the overhead trees, crawl up on you while you sleep, drill through your skin on your head to lay their eggs. So when they hatch, you're skin is moving around until they chew a little hole through and take off of another round of fun and games :))

Yeah they seem like BAAAD little pains in the dupa!

MY hands after 4 hrs are now about 3 times normal size after several bites on each.

By the way these flys are intentional blood suckers like giant Mosquitoes (think Piper cub and air liner.) :)

We have lots of flying things that bite you here on the gulf coast but glad I don't deal with those. Right now the Mosquitos are terrible.

Any repellants that work to keep them at bay?

Haven't found one yet a box fan won't even phase them.

I was walking in the yard yesterday when I looked down just as one of those little lovely things landed on my forearm. It lost...

We call those yellow flies, Deer flies, they are bad if you get into a swarm of them.
We worked a job last summer in this lady's yard...not sure if there was a dead animal in the woods or they all woke from breeding or what, but there were absolutely thousand of those flys around. enough when we looked at the truck or each other we were literally covered in a swarm.

Green heads horse fly, deer fly, black fly, no see um, mosquito when one bug season ends the next begins lol
no see ums, who you can barley see to defend yourself and leave a welt about the size of a quarter itch for a day or two. They are easy enough to avoid, stay out of the grass early morning and evening.

I looked them up on google and they look alot like deer flies. As I remember, their bite hurts but I don't remember any lingering consequences. Are you allergic to them? My dad kills them by holding his hand over his head and waiting for them to land, then smacking them. It seems to work for the deer flies. They don't seem to react as fast as a house fly. The flies I remember hurting far worse were the big horse flies. Good luck with your nemisis.
