Not figuring in time, fuel to pick it up, or shipping anything, between $5 and $10 per computer if it's just scrap.
Towers with more than scrap value parts are where it varies a lot. Some of them can have $20 or $30 in components. But, I use the $5-10 price point as a starting point. For me, most yield about $7 in components. The older computers have more scrap value than the newer ones, but won't have any more than scrap value parts, while the newer ones may.
A lot if it is situational. Where you are, what you're doing, etc.
I used to figure about 7.00$ per tower. Nowadays it's somewhere between 1.25 - 2.00 $ for the average tower being pulled from the waste stream.
The best hope was a better than scrap part that you might run into but all of the DDR 2 & some of the DDR 3's are obsolete as well as the core 2's. The 3gb/sec HDD's were good but they've been displaced by the 6 gb/sec HDD's & everything's trending toward SSD's now.
That's one thing about this ... the market is changing every few months. It's a job to keep up with it.

This market changes fast. One day, you may get $10 out of a machine, the next week you may only get $3. Then, you find someone wanting a specific item and by the time you save up enough to send them, they don't buy anymore....You have to be flexible. You also have to be able to buy at prices that you don't lose your house if something goes awry.
From what I gather the OP was asking how much to pay for a scrap computer ("...do you offer for each computer"). I'm guessing Matador's response was meant to mean how much he "gets" out of a unit? If I'm wrong, I can send Matador 5k complete scrap units in the next 2 weeks at $10 each :)
As far as how much to pay, I go up to $4 each complete unit (key word is complete). My gas/time/travel is already figured in because most of my pickups are bulk lots. If I had to drive across town for 5 computers I probably wouldnt pay a thing, unless it was a bigger client that just needed to get them gone.
Exactly. My numbers were the yield from the last breakdown (About 6 weeks ago). I would advise against paying those prices on towers. You'll have to figure out what margins and risk you're comfortable with....Quote:

I was paying per piece but started getting a lot where the HD's and ram were missing. So the last load I offered .14 a lb. but the prices have dropped a little more (here and at my yard) so this next load I'll offer .12 lb. That should run them around 2.00- 2.50 each. I made roughly triple my money on the last load after breaking down most everything. As long as I can continue making triple (as scrap) on them then I am happy.Quote:

The problem with yard numbers is that they're given in per-pound figures. Of course, at their rate for paying for towers, you'd lose money after shipping. Of course, most scrappers wouldn't sell towers whole- it kind of defeats the point of scrapping ;)
