This is probably more of a question for the guys that R2 certified.
What do you do with laptop screens that are broken? I see a thin board with a decent amount of visible gold on it and know that one of the old buyers used to pay upwards of $10 per pound for those boards. I guess my question is about the part that would be left over. Do these screens contain mercury and have to be disposed of in a certain manner?
The only mercury that I'm aware of is the small amount that is in a vapour state in the backlight lamp. Do NOT break this lamp!
Some people hold onto the screen for indium recovery I've read here somewhere.
Do you have any more info on Indium? I did a google search and came up empty in terms of recovery, where to sell it, and how much it's worth.Quote:

yes the Indium is somewhere in the neighborhood of $25 oz from what I found doing a simple google search. The recovery process doesn't get much back, so from what I have seen in my limited research, it is a lower profit margin to recover it vs mine new...and apparently there is a fair amount out there.
I sell my broken screens (all LCD) at about .02/lb. The next load I am taking I will include ALL the little lcd screens from all my electronics as well as monitor screens. We will see if it pays the same. PLEASE NOTE - this guy is on the LOW end of payment form what I have seen, but he does buy it...so I save them up. If all screen pay the same, then there are a TON of these out there in all the electronics in addition to monitors and laptop screens.
Again, this is my limited research as I recently found out he purchased them. You can probably get a much better price...I just have not had time to look any further so far.
