Hi, Brand new here from New Jersey. I was googling to see if anyone buys used containers from a job we no longer have.Then I started to see recycling. Wow. Learn something new every day. Are 40' containers recyclable or do people buy them? Any info would be great. I didn't see that in the buy/sell. BTW, I will be reading up on the forum in order to learn because,who knows? Maybe I can make a few bucks here and there. Thanks!:cool:

There is definitely a market for used shipping containers. People use them for storage. Some even bury them as a doomsday bunker.

Thanks. It's one of those things where I need to get it out of the location now but something to consider. Hoping a recycling company would pick up and also give me some $$
Hi , do you know of any recycling companies for a quick turn around and get some $$? Looking to get it off of its current location. We used it as storage for a business.
Steel right now is only going for about 5 cents a pound. Not sure how much they weigh, but there's probably no a whole lot of scrap value there.
Where are you located? I'm sure that if cheap transportation could be arranged, there are plenty of people on here (myself included) that would love to get our hands on one for storage purposes.
Put a craiglist ad up and/or eBay ad. Those containers sell very well. You just need to work out the logistics of moving them.
There's plenty of places that will buy them, they have set prices per condition and new ones are actually worth more than their worth.
As new, they include a certain amount of fixing damage in with the price, after that $ is used up, they cannot be used internationally.
The Yellow pages will have container leasing firms in it.
There's lots of storage yards around that have 30- 100 of these setup with a corrugated roof above them, a security system for the container and getting access into the yard.
A nice wee business if you are into setting one up. Ideally you need a open area close by a security firm to start with, & shipping containers.
If you have a few clues about setting up a business, all you need is a bank, a calculator, a telephone.
I suggested this idea to a guy 23 years ago, who because of medical conditions, was going to be bedridden for the rest of his life. It was about a year before he got to the point he couldn't move around much.
He set it up, made $$$ and sold it. He was the first to do it in that city. Others followed his idea.
I got the idea from Darnels garage in the movie 'Christine'.
At the time he was running a telephone service for mobile 'fixit people'. Fix broken windows, flat tyres, shift things, lawn mowing etc etc.
He took a commission of every 'job' he set up. He had a network of workers who spent their day following up the jobs he got for them.
I met him 3 times in a month by coincidence, by phone when my cars tyre went flat. To me it was 1 phone call with directions and I backed the car tyre over the $15, which the worker got when he fixed the tyre.
I happened to walk past his house and saw him rolling across his bed, it was on a main road, and stopped and talked with him.
That's when I found he was the 'guy on the other end of the phone' earlier.
Then he came into the workshop I was working in to get something fixed, we chatted, I told him about Darnels garage idea but with shipping containers.
But I degress..... Most towns probably have the storage yards like this now.
i have a storage container in my backyard! i turned mine into a shop/work space,strung some shop lights in it and put some electrical plugs in it and good to go!Quote:
