Batteries

I just sold some batteries at $.25/lb. I've mentioned in other posts that there are 2 yards near me that I use. I called both of them, and the other yard was at $.15 / lb. This same yard, though (as I mentioned in a different thread previously) is currently paying $.0525 / lb on shred vs. $.03 / lb at the yard where I sold my batteries.

Interesting, but the bigger point was to say (as many others have said many times) how important it is to call around.

Got 0.30 for batteries today, other yard was .25

.29 a pound for plastic case batteries recently from one local recycler, while they were giving .05 for steel.
The other yard was .07 cents for steel and .25 for batteries.
Needless to say, one yard gets my batteries, and the other one gets my steel. ;-)

The price has a lot to do with handling.
I get a low price for batterys here because they pallet them, then send them to a larger city where they get resorted and palleted again, then sent to a major port where the pallets get sorted into shipping containers and sent to China.

That's 3 or 4 different sortings, each time they are processed it costs money and its not that easy to do, add safety concerns to that $$ too.

Just getting one more level up the food chain will get you a better price.
If you have pallet loads of battery's, it might pay to find out exactly how they want them so you can get the highest level prices.

Carquest here pays a flat $10 for a car/truck battery and $5 for a lawnmower battery. (The larger ones).
