degaussing wire ali/copper wire colers

i was wandering what everyone gets for ali deggaussing wire.

i hear some get ec wire for it is this true?

what about the ali wire you get from wires you stripped thats not copper coated tin is that considered ec wire or does it have to be a certain size?

so far i have two tv degaussing wires that are ali what a dissapointment that was=( one is heavy but still its white. i have some copper thats red and some other colers does that count as bare bright?

i wanna seperate it be4 i take it in. tv yokes the copper is that #2?

last time i went to the yard the guy gave me #1 copper price and it was not the size of a number 2 pencil is there a reason for this and also what i thought was #1 it was romex and he said it was bare bright?

is it strange that they go back and forth like that? i just wanna get things straight so its not confusing.

If a yard sees you as a low volume scrapper, they will always give you the lowest price. When you are a mid range scrapper the prices and the grade will change given the market. If you are high volume they will want your business and will pay top dollar and grade. So is this unusual, no.

Separate the wires the best you can when you bring them in ask what and or how they want the wires. Yards change the rules all the time (could be you, or what the buyer wants or many different things) By me for ever, all wires could have ends on them and they paid #2 insulated price for them. Now ends need to be removed. They still allow aluminum insulated wires to be mixed in. But they are now paying more for romex wire so I need to keep that separated from the other #2 insulated. So far communication wire and Christmas light wire with no bulbs or brackets can go in with the #2 as well. Speak up if you think a yard is screwing you over, ask questions just don't be a Richard about it. I have some guys at the scale treat me like I was scum. Talking in Spanish about me. But guess what all scrap yards need metal and once I had figured out there game and they figured out mine there were no more problems to be had.

I sell romex as is. Can't sell stripped wire here unless you are a business.

Wow, I've never run into that rule before. I know many yards won't accept burnt wire, but never heard of not taking stripped.

I'd guess that he thought there was no insulation (in this case varnish) on the Copper wire because the varnish was very thin and/or clear, or Copper coloured.

So, he gave you a extra good price for it and you gained from it.
It also may have been a incentive for you to come back to the same yard next time.

Its really hard to understand what's going thru the buyers head at the time you sell, a frown might mean that you hadn't cleaned the metal 100%, but they still gave you that price.

It also might mean that if you had brought in that 220lbs of #2 Copper three days ago...they could have given you a better price because they were filling in a order/contract and would have paid extra for it if they knew you had it,
but now its going to sit in their inventory for the next 6 weeks..…

In your case, it also could mean they were filling in a order for #1 Copper, while knowing your Copper was #2, it had low insulation and could be 'slid across' into their #1 pile taking into account a extreme lack of contamination in the #1 Copper that they had.

I have found that 'big name yards' have no incentive to 'rip you off', its messes with their numbers and they loose customers, on the other hand, small sales of metal don't mean as much as they spend the same amount of time on most sales, but they still know that all of those sales add up at the end of the day.

I usually get bare bright price for stripped romex. All romex is at least 14 gauge, which I think could go either way. But the 12 AWG stuff should be paid as BB IMO.

It took me 20 bucks & about 15 minutes at the county clerk's office to register as an assumed name (I Bar K Recycling) (get it... I bark... ruff ruff LOL) Another 20 minutes and a $50 deposit to open a business account at the bank & voila: strip all the wire you want.

Yeah I should do it, but then I would need to report business revenue and losses I am sure after expenses I would have no gain at this stage of the game. My sister in law had a business license selling dog charms at festivals never made enough money but still did the tax forms and such. I need to look into this...

how do you determine what volume scrapper you are? are there weight values for each? low mid and high?

Aluminum that is copper coated PAYS aluminum (so put it with AL)

Yes Many TV's have AL degaussing it was kinda rare 8 years ago , but now the Tube TV's we Curb Co find are at the stage when TV Tube types
were at the production end being replaced with FLAT's

Copper from TV yokes are not bare bright Some yoke copper is Red - Green - Red and Green basically a coated copper and #2

Stripped Romex is #1 and often a yard guy will take as BB ,
some times depending on the mood of the worker,
depending on quantity can be the deciding factor.

To put in perspective
IF
#2 is $1.80 per LB
#1 is $1.90 per LB
BB is $2.05 per LB
I have found I just let the yard get there way once in a wile
I ain't fighting over $5 any more .

Degaussing wire, unless alum of course, goes as #2 Cu here, individual wire within them not thick enough for anything else. Almost all of my non-insulated copper goes as #2. I rarely get heavy enough gauge to strip. I'm not one of P76's high volume scrappers but the non-ferrous place I go know me and know that I bring in sorted and clean material and I'm not out to pull one over on them. Last night I took a bag full of insulated #2 and box of assorted clean alum in at the end of the day. The guy barely looked at them.
