I get alot of the round usually black aluminum capacitors off of all sorts of electronic boards. Are they worth saving? If so what as? New to the e-waste thing but fascinated by it.

I get alot of the round usually black aluminum capacitors off of all sorts of electronic boards. Are they worth saving? If so what as? New to the e-waste thing but fascinated by it.
One yard near me buys them as dirty aluminum or aluminum breakage. Mostly I just toss them in with the shred.
If you were really bored and had a lot of time to kill you could collect a ton of em and pull out all the little metal strips. Maybe I'll do that when I get home, nothing better to do at the moment.

There is polychlorinated biphenyl and other nasty stuff in some capacitors . Rip open at your own risk.
I leave caps on the boards unless they are really big and devalue the board.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I tried and most of the legs stayed on the board so I gave up after a few. As for RLS' comment, I assumed we were talking about the standard dark blue & grey electrolytic ones that are all over most boards, which afaik don't have any liquids or majorly dangerous components.Quote:
