My yard buys rotors separately saying they are heavy steel. So, wouldn't say, a hitch be the same as rotors? Any time I've had heavy metal items like hitches, etc, that just goes in with my regular steel. I'd figure it would be separated like rotors are. So my question is this - are rotors made of something different that they buy them separately from other steel?
It's somewhat confusing, but like Kris Kringle is saying, rotors are cast iron. The terms "Heavy Iron" and "#1 Iron" are interchangeable. Criteria for #1 iron is being 1/4 inch or thicker. To confuse the issue further, yards will often throw Cast Iron and #1 Iron (Heavy Iron) together and pay one price. So, saying a rotor (actually cast iron) is Heavy Iron is misleading although you're (usually) paid what you should be.
Thanks guys! This has just been bugging me for a while now and figured I may as well ask and get it off my mind lol. I understand the difference as you describe it. So when they throw say, a cast iron tub in with my other junk steel that is wrong then. correct?
Not necessarily "wrong" - depending on your yard. BUT - a tub presents another factor. Since tubs are coated with porcelain - they might not pay you cast iron pricing. The last one I hauled up went as Light Iron because of the porcelain.

I know you didnt say you had one but just a note, cast iron tubs and sinks, in decient shape can sell for up to $1000 ea. especially claw foot tubs and the big "farm" sinks".
