Plasma Cutter

When I purchased this plasma cutter, I figured the heaviest metal I would be cutting would be 1/2: with a bit of 3/4" now and then.

The smaller machine would have had a lesser duty cycle, I tend to forget about time when I'm working and have no regard for duty cycles.

To avoid burning out the machine went for the larger 70 amp machine that is capable of doing a severance cut of 1 1/4" giving me 100 percent duty cycle cutting the metals I cut most often.

Yes it's Chinese, bought from a fellow off of ebay direct from China, uses the Panisonic P80 torch and consumables are cheap compared to name brand equipment.

Had a few problems with the machine which I figured out and likely know more about it than the guy that sells them. All were easy fixes.

Owned it for 2 years now and work it to death,sometimes my back is so sore that I just walk away from it leaving it outside in the weather rain or shine.

Using the machine to recover brass and stainless steel valves is a snap, to give you an idea some pictures.

$800.00 Delivered, seller is decent he marked the value down so no Duty was required the only hitch I ran into is that i live rural the courier would not deliver. To overcome this problem had it delivered to a friends business in town giving his wife a deposit to cover any additional costs.

Not sure if I would be violating forum rules by plugging the seller here, so I will not unless I hear otherwise.

If anyone wants to know just pm me. They're a very good machine if you don't abuse it like I do should last you a lifetime. Go for larger than you need to overcome the limited duty cycle the extra bucks spent will save you grief later. Nothing worse than seeing a big puff of smoke coming from your machine.

what are the operating costs comparing to the less hot oxy-acetylene?

Plasma shines with the non ferris metals, how do you put a price on that.

Brass valves that have steel pipe threaded into them, I slice the valve into the pipe then tap the two halves of the pipe they fall out, if the brass valve is threaded onto a steep pipe slice the valve in half, give it a rap with the hammer then into the brass bucket.

If I have large restaurant equipment that are made from Stainless, I can cut into sheets making for a compact load. I do not take my copper, brass and stainless in on a daily basis.

In the next couple of days i will post some pictures of how I remove the field coils form starters and generators, the bolts that hold the steel core I gouge them out using the plasma, give the casing a rap and the coils fall out.

I use the plasma to cut the heads of of the starter bolts, same thing to open up electric motors, it's fast. Motor has a v pulley cut the shaft to clear the way.

It;s all scrap and it don't have to look pretty.

70 amp plasma, 40 amp breaker on 220 volts, 5 hp compressor on 80 gallon tank

Brand does not much matter as long as the machine has IGBT diodes inside, The guy I purchased mine from was shop-river you have to ask for single phase 220 volt machine or you can ask this guy who I have recently dealt with michaelwong4718@hotmail.com for a single phase plasma cutter. Micheal has a better grasp of the English language.

I just placed an order with Michael for a replacement torch and tips, shields and cups for my machine. The only hitch is they can not ship top a PO box, it's a UPS fedex thing, so I use the store address on top of the hill and left some money with the owner in case of customs duty on arrival of my parcel.

I think all plasma machine are wrapped in different covers and paint come from the same factory in china, mine sits outside in the rain and gets used rough after two years still ticking. This will now be the 2nd torch with hose replacement working with scrap is hard on them.

I bought a hypermax 45 and its a decent machine. cons-consumables are a bit pricey. pro's -its made in the USA and customer service + warranty is great

I may consider this panasonic for 800$ as a extra one for the yard

Getting ready to buy one. If you had to buy another one, would you steer clear of a cutter that has MOSFETS?

Did some research and Everlast had some machines come through with inferior mosfets and in turn some pissed off customers.

Now they're made with Toshiba mosfets. From what I can find they seem alright. Curious your thoughts Gus? Or any one else?

Good to see that your doing your own research, my guess is that you already know the difference between MOSFETS and IBGT's.

Purchase the plasma that come with IGBT's installed, mine is 2 1/2 years old and the electronics have never given me any problems, any problems which may arise will come from from the crabby torch.

The P-80 torch supplied with these plasma cutters could be improved, but because it uses cheap consumable will stick with it and its problems which are easily fixed or cheap to replace the whole torch complete with cables, I'm on my second torch.

If you can afford it buy another torch for a spare when you buy the machine.

When I made the decision to buy, got the 70 amp machine even though I do not usually cut anything with 1 inch thickness, having a machine with power in reserve brings up your duty cycle when cutting 1/2 inch and lighter metals. Aluminum requires more amps.

Your going to love that new plasma and wonder why you never bought one sooner. Be sure to get a machine that has pilot arc, which is actually designed for use on a CNC table but comes in handy when cutting up cable or expanded metal using the hand held torch.

hey gustavas. I know this thread is a little old. But I need some help. I am new to scrap business and need a good plasma cutter as shear is not a solution for everything. I need mainly for cutting al 6061 sheets pipes tanks and ss restaurant equipment. I am nt very handy and fixing these things so what could be a good option i can buy locally and if there is a problem i am not stuck.

I purchased mine from ebay seller 3shop-river 70 amp plasma 800 delivered you may have to ask for the single phase unit, it came with the P-80 torch consumable are inexpensive for this torch. Don't buy from micheal wong he substitutes on your order.

I've had my plasma cutter going on four years now and had no major problems with it.
