Scored 3 of these at auction today and was hoping that someone might be able to shed some light on what they are used for and who to target for a sale. I've used plenty of air compressors but never one of these. Was shocked when I saw what they go for new, somehow managed to get out the door under $50 for all 3.

Vacuum pumps are used to evacuate HVAC systems before the system gets charged with freon.
Thanks injunjoe...Started doing some research this am and picked up on that. These are not too portable, they are at least 150pounds and would be awkward to have to move around on a regular basis. They were part of Colorado University's quarterly surplus auction and were with other items that appeared to come from some of their labs. Being a carpenter I know some guys use vacuum molds when gluing up wood laminations, but have never tried it.Quote:

I see a key way on all three units, silver disk with keyhole slot attached with four screws. I wonder what they were meant for. A gauge or something?
The plates on the bottom show they were mounted on what I would think a vac. tank.
I might want to buy one of these babies. I am after all a mad scientist.
Guss great job on Vac mold table! Of course the table I mentioned was nothing like that!! Sorry my version comes with rubber sheets or at least vinyl.

injunjoe...Those keyholes are actually site windows for the oil level. Watching some on Ebay right now and hoping to have time later this week to clean them up and test.

Thats a great score with the pumps.
They are worth over $1000 each I'd say, look for uses & ask around for buyers.
Fiberglassing uses them, surfboards?
Vacuum plastic molding.
Refrigeration industry.
Siphoning liquids.
Degassing concrete & latex in molds.
I've been told from another HVAC repair guy in Savannah, Ga that the solid line, running up from left to right, is the system curve, and that the lines runing down from left to right are the fan curves.
The rated point shows at 635 in all four graphs for the High setting.
What is the CFM for each speed Low, Medium, and High, for 0.20 ESP?
