Question about scrapping ferrous metals

Hi everyone,

Just about as green as it gets when it comes to scrapping but after seeing the amount of money I got for a small amount of copper and brass I was able to pull from the dumpster at work I think I'm hooked.

I'm ending up with a fair bit of steel/iron which is usually the casing of various electronics and appliances that I break down. Plan on just piling it up until I can fill the back of my pickup and make a run to the yard. Do I need to be concerned with things like paint/powder coating, rust or a small amount of plastic still attached to them?

Nope, you should be good their buddy. What you DONT want too do, is have TOO much non-metallic attachments. For example, you have a 6 inch piece of metal, theirs 8 inches of plastic attached to it. Get the plastic off. Once the yards see that you are a "trusted" seller, you wont get hassled as much, if you do, when you go to yer yard.

Paint on the metal, rust, coatings, all that dont matter. As long as it's all metallic, yer good.

If rust had to be removed from metal...I would love to see the yard workers cleaning all the metal to keep it nice and shiny =-P
