When it rains...it pours
You all should know by now that I was robbed over the weekend, well I was out there with the cops and they did all there cop things and left.
I had to stay at the trailer to get a list of items needed to repair trailer as they did do some damage to it (I wish I knew why they had to do that to)
So ok a tire..thats cheap as I use mobile home ties/ales on that trailer
The plug was damaged just never around to fixing it...so..today seemed like a great day to do so.
And I will be installing a lock onto the gate so it cant be opened.
Jumped into my truck and ran down to parts place...got the few things needed..no big deal really.
Got back and started to do that but was hungry so...yet again lets jump back into truck...truck wont start...starter motor just blew so..ok make a phone call and get my mobile auto guy out there to drop the part as all my tools where not in the truck *have no clue where they are as of right now....will work on that issue another day.* Got that out another run down to the parts store $350.61 part...but it comes with lifetime warranty on it...since I had him there I had him look at why my truck does not like to start up when its cold....should of known this one...glow plugs are bad...and..they are under the heads...nice..so need gaskets, glow plug, glow plug relay, glow plug wires inside the heads all need to be replaced to fix that issue....cost...unknown as of yet.
Had to pay my auto guy $100 for the fix.
I think I will just stop ranting but damm this weekend sucked....hope I have a strong week this week to recover from the loss.
On the good side...I maybe able to strip cars from this one guy (car crusher) and resell the parts and not have to put any money upfront on the parts I pull....he wants 30% profit after costs....that right there...can turn into a huge deal...an get this...he does not even cut the cats off...so guess what I will be taking along with other things.

Easy before you go replacing the glow plugs replace just the relay first. I know in the old ford 7.3 liters the ford relay is junk. A $20 dollar aftermarket one makes the truck start like new again.

He checked it but I will see if its OEM or aftermarket part.

Im not saying your auto guy doesnt know what hes taking about. OK maybe I am. All i know is the auto guy I took my truck too said I needed new glow plugs also to the tune of $1200. I baught the $20 part and dont need new glowplugs. BUt if your going to do the glowplugs you might as well do the injectors while your in there.

X2 on the 7.3l glow plug relay either go aftermarket or keep factory spares cause that relay will cause you all kinds of headaches, usually when you really need the truck.
also w/ the 7.3l's make sure the glow plugs actually shut off once the truck runs for a minute if they don't it will kill the plugs pretty fast.
also sorry to hear about the thieves in your area, that sucks maybe the police will get'em though.

Glowplugs & diesels
I don't know how I came about this but this is how it happens.
I get in a diesel engine vehicle, I turn the key so the glowplugs heat up & the light turns off.
I then turn the engine over a little, as little as possible, just a 'chug'.
Then I turn the key back & forward again & let the glowplugs heat up again, the light turns off, I turn the key like normal & the engine starts.
It starts easily, it runs great all day.
The next day someone else gets in & starts it up as usual, glowplug lights, turns off, he turns the key to start engine & the engine turns over & then starts & it runs.
It runs like cr@p all day.
The next day, I start it up 'My Way' & it runs great all day.
Someone else starts it up normally the day after that & it runs like cr@p again.
This has happened on every diesel engine I have had anything to do with, my way of starting is always best.
Truck, forklift, generator, whatever, my way has always worked best.
Ok, I can suggest the obvious, I'm heating up the liquid diesel spray inside the cylinder to a hotter temp & from then on its acting as if the engines already warm. The glowplugs start warm & stay that way all day.
Anyone else know a bit more than I do about diesels (I know S.F.A.) or want to try this or suggest anything?

Your glow plugs do not stay on...they turn on an once the light is out they go out.
Reason it may start better for you since you warm then back and rewarm is just because there more heat in the motor.
You should not jump into the car and drive off if you can help it...its best to start them up and walk away...let them warm up. If you drive them cold there will be fuel that wont burn and have hard carbon up in the motor.
Another thing to help fight the carbon build up...when the motor is HOT (if it wont get hot around 200F take your fan off) And get on a empty road and from a dead stop hit the gas HARD and run that turbo..if your a stick slam the gears home to try to blow out your motor of any carbon build up.
If you take the fan off make sure you keep an eye on your motor temp.
Dont red line the motor but take it higher than 3k on the tack (4k is red lining for my truck)
P.s there are kits out there that will let the motor run at higher rpms but they are running a few mods....getting your rpms up will help clean out carbon inside your turbo (on the hot side) as well an you will get better flow
I run my rpms up every oil change (5,000miles)
