Little article that might make you want to hold out until the first of the year if you can. It states that scrap may jump at least 30 a ton next month. Of course it all depends on your market but at least you know its going to be worth more.

If you do find another yard may I suggest you take a new approach, there price can vary according to attitude. My yard offers me a nice percentage above the common scrap price, it's all how you work it!

I haven't sold steel in about two weeks but it was .12/lb here. I think the boss may be trying to get rid of you.

Took in some light Iron Today myself and it was up to $195 per gross tonne from $190 a couple of weeks ago. At the height we had $230 per gross tonne during the summer here in NH. I would like to see it trend back up again for sure.
As far as yards go, in my first year of scrapping It took me a while to find my favorite yard. One yard ripped me on the price royally (I was a rookie) then at another my tow hitch was near ripped off my car because coming off the scales was like coming down the Rockies. At the bottom of the scales are deep holes in the concrete where others have bottomed out. At yet another yard Backing into the pile I had to run over shards of metal constantly and actually witnessed a guy shred a tire. Then I found my Favorite yard. It is clean of debris 90% of the time, I don't bottom out (mostly :) ) and the guys working there are great. Prices are also good for the state. Totally agree with you InjunJoe...vote with the feet!!
I drive 20 minutes past the nearest yards to go to my favorite one because:
better prices
less crowded
nicer workers (owner, wife & son are almost always there)
cleaner yard
Even though it costs more in gas to go there, I'll still keep going. The one time I went to the close yard, it left a sour taste in my mouth. Bunch of miserable workers and shady clientele..
I am getting .10 and paying .09. Had a customer drag in a Fomoco Truck today, no rad. no cat. I had him scale (costs me $2.00) and it came to $355 @ .09..he got all excited and wanted to go up the road 10 miles where they advertise .105 ( nobody ever gets it and the scales are notoriously crooked) I had him take the scale weight and told him if he got more than $355 I would give him the difference in cash ( even if he sold to them), never showed so I know he got it w/o lube. As far as shooting therapy goes, 12 gauge slugs and an engine block sure helps the "head space". This can be a very frustrating line of work. Dental work, yank em' for $100 cash at the dental school or the local "cash only" dentist..I despise these "professional" practices where we get to support their golf game. Hang tough, extra $$ in January from what I hear as well.
yeah my yard is creeping back up as well, was $150/ton in Oct/Nov, now $170. Hopefully it will go back up to the previous $200 it was at all summer or more.

The yard I use for all of my shred has been closed over the holidays, opens again next week. Have ended up with quite the stockpile (for me anyhow). My yard in louisville is paying $ 265 for shread as been up the last two weeks
