Looking for a Scale

I know I seen one post a while back that someone bought one, but I can't find it. I've searched and can't find the thread. Could someone PLEASE help me out and tell me what type of scale I'm looking for if I basically want to weigh my odds and ends. Ex: seeing if it's better to sell a whole motor at current price or take the time to pull the copper off.

****Please be gentle as I"m already ducking, I DID search, been searching the forum for over an hour. I've also searched the internet and keep coming up with bathroom type scales and one postal scale.

BTW Really enjoy reading all the posts and learning from everyone!!

I bought a scale like they have in doctor's offices. Super accurate as it uses weights rather than springs.

Shipping scales are another good option and work great. You can find them on ebay cheap. Something to look into.

Easyrecycle Thank You as well, think I found one that will suit my purpose for the smaller things for reasonable, (after searching "shipping scales") I guess looking at HomeDepot, Lowes and Harbor Freight for one was my first problem LMAO!!

I want to make the most money off what I get as well as make sure I'm utilizing my time wisely. Besides that I'm using a bathroom scale to weigh my containers (copper, aluminum, cords, etc.) so I have a "close" estimate of what I've got. I've got no problems on the truck scale, but when it comes to taking in my other stuff there are a few guys that ALWAYS try to get over on me! Maybe it's because I'm a woman, I've been nice about it, but they really don't want to catch me on one of my "off" days!!!

Thats why we are here. More than happy to help. Make sure when you go to buy a scale...look at the reviews and not just the price...a cheap scale wont give good weights and will brake fast. So look into each brand and model number.

No worries!! ;) Will do! I LOVE scrapping and plan on doing this for a long time, so I'm trying to look at everything as an investment and it needs to be worth my money if I'm going to spend it.

Sounds ridiculous to some people, but I love doing this more than any hobby or job I've ever had. It can be fun, hard work and rewarding all at the same time!!

Here is some to check out, the 75 lbers should be enough for what your doing and easy to store behind the seat till you need it. Some have battery backup, digital, ours has a remote head you can remove from the scale for really large boxes or whatever, and move it a couple feet away. I guess I should have added in my post that I have no idea what they cost new; I bought mine at a garage sale for $5 about four years ago.

I got mine free from scrapping! Works great and very accurate.

SAMS CLUB 49.00 400LB MAX DIGITAL deetachablescreen battery ot direct current, lbs Kg. oz etc.

I store my metal in plastic coal sacks sacks & I use a old spring hanging scale I found somewhere.

I find its handy, even thought the spring needs setting constantly, I find its accurate to ~100grams.

I can weigh any lightweight thing individually or I can weigh the lot in a sack. Theres no worry about the sack overspilling scales like there is with the floor scales.

As its small I can take it with me while scrapping.

It weighs up to 12Kg.
If I put the hook into one corner of the sack & I lift the other corner, I can accurately weigh up to 25Kg.

Theres cheap hanging scales on ebay etc, most are digital & they weigh more than 50Kg easy & cost about $25.

Here's a link for a cheap hanging scale, anywhere from $7.00 to 16.00, you can hang bags and buckets up to 75 pounds.

Thanks for helping with all the choices and input! It's greatly appreciated. I thought I had decided which one I would go with but after reading some of the "reviews" on them on different sites I'm up in the air now.

I have a question for those of you owning yards or buying the goods from scrappers...

Are you not required to buy a NTEP certified scale to do business with?

I'm not a buyer persay but I do buy from computer stores and other parts swappers. My digital scale is accurate with my buyers scales. If you want a certified scale then your going to be getting the gov't agency more involved in your life/business every year for a recertification.
