Proof that the simplist ebay add can net you better than scrap value.

I put this up last night after getting home and sorting all the ram chips I baught from the 7 pounds. Anything that was 512mb or higher I put on ebay. They sold today. Less than today and look at the ad for yourself. Its a picture and 3 sentence description.

Sold 6 chips for $18 plus $3 shipping. scrap value of chips using ewasted current price of $15 per pound is 4.78oz of chips $4.48. So after fees and shipping im looking at total sale of $14.85 So an extra $10 for making an ebay ad that took 5 mins tops. Ill take that anyday.

Good for you, always good to make more than scrap value on anything.

I had an ad on CL looking for computers, a guy emailed me wanting to sell ram at $5 a stick for 256kb, sent him a message back saying I would sell him 512mb for the same $5 a stick, only had 1 stick that he could use but it sold for far more than scrap value.

wow will he pay 10 bucks a stick for 512mb if so ill send you 100 and we can split the profit :)

Over the last few years I have sold lots of pieces and parts on eBay for way more than scrap value. Had a Case 222 riding mower with a tired engine and other issues. Sold most everything in pieces or small lots netted over 900.00. Deck, frame , hood and a little bit of misc went to the scrap yard. Have a small pile of escrap and will do the same.

PTS, i think he was working on either his or a customers computer and needed/wanted a specific type/code/number however they identify types of ram sticks. Hope he kept my address.
I however need 3 sticks of 512mb DDR2 for an Alienware that i got from a CL call, I guess I will find some one day.

You know, we have been thinking about hiring a person just to list things on ebay. We could start with this bucket of over 400 sticks of DDR 512mb ram

Can you short them out by piling them all together in a box like that?? Wouldn't matter if their scrap but if their buying in hopes of reusing then it is possible to destroy.

I think these things are pretty durable from what i understand. They guy we currently sell to buys them for reuse and buys them as is just like this. He is only paying 2.40/stick at the current time.

Well I sold 6 sticks for $14.85. So thats $2.47 a stick. I would just sell them to the guy buying them now. the average stick weighs about 25 grams or so thats makes them worth about 75 cents each scrap value at $15 a pound. So your getting 3 times scrap value to your reseller for 52mb sticks? I would take that all day long. Now 1gb or higher I think I would ask for little better prices. Closer to $4 a stick for those I would think.

As far as durability goes out of all the ram chips that I have pulled from computers so far and actualy tested them. I have yet to come across one that doesnt work. So I would think they are pretty durable as well. I could be wrong but ram chips dont have any moving parts and no battery. So only thing that could happen to them is static shock from friction maybe?

Man I Love getting better than scrap value on untested stuff. SOmething I started doing with this ram lot is after they buy it I send them an message threw ebay saying that this is untested and that I need them to respond that its untested and they agree before I ship it. I havnt had any problems yet but I thaught this might help cut them down since I have so many untested chips to sell. Just an idear.

PTS, I thought you had bought some stuff off ebay that you used to test everything?

As well as erase all information?

Overall they are pretty durable. However, i pulled one in the past and put it my pc just to add to what i had, it was compatible, but when i did, it kept hanging my browser up among other programs. After doing a search, i found that ram can actually go bad. More than likely due to heat as with most electronics.

RAM can go bad or be incompatible even if it "list as compatible". The two things that kill RAM the most is static electricity and heat. I try and sell all my RAM, even untested. Just sold two sticks of Samsung server ram, and 4 sticks of Netlist server ram for little over $50. Beats scrapping it any day.
