E-Scrap Shipping?

I'm wondering at what point (or poundage) a shipment of computer motherboards, cpus, memory sticks, etc pays a profit above the shipping cost?

For instance, I have about 25 pounds and counting and really would like to try out a small shipment to 1. Obviously make a profit and 2. See how the process works. But I don't want to ship it out too soon and pay more in shipping than I get in profit. I suppose it depends on what exactly is being shipped? Or can you estimate a minumum based on poundage? Any advice, opinions, information? Thanks!

Check out our price sheet and do a quick calc on what the Gross value of the lot will be.

The smaller the package, the less weight, the greater the shipping cost.

I believe you are requesting the "equilibrium price" at which point you get the best bang for your buck in terms of shipping costs to maximize profit. The only problem with that is there is tremendous variable - for example 25 pounds of memory will be cheaper to ship then 25 lbs of mother boards as motherboards are low density and high volume when compared to memory.

At 25 lbs though, expect shipping to run $.55/b to $.75/lb

Alright ewasted heres another shipping question. Is it cheaper to send two 50 lbs boxes or one 100lb box?

check the shippers website mike, they go by weight & dimensions. i can't recall exactly where i ran into this detail, but somewhere i recall had a change over spot at 70 pounds (at which point the rate shot up drastically) due to it requiring (per company regulations) 2 people to handle, or maybe it was over 50, i can't for certain recall. You might need to go around a few times with each carrier (and each destination)to locate the size and weight that does it for you

I like to ship my boxes at about the 50 to 70 pound rate.

Yes! Thank you. I will check out the different shipper's websites to get an estimate. It's just still so new to me that I'm still in the process of identifying which different parts I have and what kind they are (cpus especially). SO grateful to PartTimeScrapper for posting all those pictures!!! I've been studying them over and over...

your definetely right mike. i too have learned a bunch from many others on this forum including you. but you know what they say a picture is worth a thousand words. it wasnt my intention to shun any of the other gurus who share there extensive knowledge with us.

i went to a couple shipping companies websites and i can't seem to find a rate per lb. They all ask "where are you shipping to/from" and "what are you shipping?" "how much does the package weigh?" then build a custom shipping estimate based on this info. Thanks ewasted for the rate per lb price you posted.Now if i can just figure out how to weigh all my stuff

For now use your bathroom scale, it'll be close.

They dont give a rate per pound Julie. Put your box together, and get a good weight guestimation, if that's all you can do for now, then go to their shipping rates page, and put in the size (measure liberally, they certainly will ) and weight, and get your rate guestimation from that. If you want to know then, what if it weighed more ( can I add to the contents ) or should i make it less, go back around the rates again, changing the weight to see where the rates change at. That's the only way I know how to do it, if you ship things enough, you kind of get a feel for it, but starting fresh, you've just got to find your way around different size packages, different weights, different destinations, signed for? etc
Also, in your case now, I'm certain you'll be shipping to a business address, which is a lessor rate than to residential , so be sure and check that box too in your queries, and make sure when you ship it, that they give you the business address rate as well (some places will charge the residential rate just because it's more, unless you insist otherwise, because those charges can come back on them, if they only charged business, and it turned out to be residential)
