Cincinnati passed a pretty harsh ordinance, two days later it is under legal challenge. Will the tide turn in our favor?

It is sad that laws are being created to stop scrapping. I understand that the negative scrappers give all of us a bad name. And now everyone will suffer. Large companies will lose out from the small guys, the small guys will either bite the bullet or give up. If little guys give up landfills and just about any area around will see an increase in scrap that isn't worth the time of the big dawgs. Scrappers have a symbiosis relation with the world. If you limit us a lot of this will go out of whack. (Mainly just venting against these lawmakers)

I just don't see how a license would deter thieves, if they are good enough they will still be thieves just with a license to sell

The city's rules require permits, background checks, licensing and additional record keeping. Much of Garden Street's metal is shipped in from other states and a company lawyer says sellers have said they will stop doing business.
I'm on record here as supporting licenses in theory, but I'm afraid the actual implementation is going to be a nightmare.
Even used car dealers that do half a million gross revenue don't have these kinds of fees.
This is a bad idea but it would remove some competition and because they would be getting less metal they would be forced to offer more for the metal.

It is a very short sighted ordinance, imo. Council, in it's rush to do something, may end up losing the all the tax revenue from the yards and their suppliers.
Just going to cause a black market. Instead of the tweakers and thieves being able to sell to the yards they will sell to a middle man who will have all his stuff and then he will sell that to a yard. Just like drugs no matter how many laws they pass to stop people from buying it you still can get it anywhere if you look hard enuff.
I've seen a bunch of these new laws posted, but this by far is the most ludicrous one to date. We all better hope this one is shot down.
Reminds me of when the flood hit here in Pa around wilkes-barre, duryea, etc. The police commisioner or mayor, whatever, came up with a deal. You need 500 permit to run scrap from the flood zone of Duryea out or you would be arrested, fined, etc. I literally picked up from a reg customer some stuff. I was stopped 5 mins from the place and told to drop the **** off the truck, even the stuff I already had, or I would be arrested, etc. I literally got mouthy and almost got disorderly conduct..lol. I had all proof I needed where it came from and that it was not stolen, which is what they were trying to prevent. So I dropped it off the truck at the curb, went for a coffee. Came back 15 mins loaded real quick and got the hell out of their never to return yet. My customers now bring the stuff to me from there just in case the law still stands right at the city line.
I personally think greed and the city making money off the flood scrap was motive, not to prevent theft as they said.
Did you know that there are 10 scrap yards in Cincinnati, and only 5 of them are licensed by the city to be operate? That's a 50% failure rate on the part of the city inspectors. How well do you think they'll manage thousands of new licensees?
Maybe every one who's upset should dump some scrap at the next city council meeting. "Here, you guys deal with it" LOL

Landfills wouldn't take it as none of it is bio degradeable, and they do the same thing with theirs as we do with ours.
Plus, there is international company that are paying hundreds of billions of dollars per year for it all.
This is what I been thinking about. Lots of people are out of work, Lots start scrapping to make money. Get paid in cash, Tax free. Now the government wants that money. so if nobody is getting a paycheck, they cant get that tax money. Call me crazy but thats what I think.
