old lcd displays
Hey all. A couple days ago there was a discussion about old office phones, and I chimed in saying some of those old lcd displays had gold value, and that I would post some pics when I got a chance. I didn't have any phones, but pulled a display from an old fax, and an old laser printer.
The basic displays:

The backs of them. Gold can already be seen on the back of the fax board:

The boards broken down:

Close up of the printer gold. The connector has gold, and that ribbon cable has gold. I'll try and chemically strip that ribbon latter to see if it's gold all the way.

And a couple close ups of the fax display.

Under those bigger round black dots (on the fax display) are little ic chips and they are coated over with black epoxy. Just so you know,,,

No not at all. Those little "IC's" are the same as the big ic's just way less of the black epoxy package on them. If you were to dissolve the cover, you would find the same guts as the big ic's less the package and pins. Actually a better example are the eproms. What you see under the glass is roughly the same as whats under those little epoxy covers.
Not sure if that made any sense or not.

I have read that....
On the third photo, of the keyboard, those big grey/black spots are silver.
Scrape em off & dissolve em in nitric acid till it turns blue & then precipitate the silver out with some copper.
The forth photo, the small tan SMD's, labeled C11 C12 C15 have platinum in them.
Chip or solder them off & clean them down & sell them by the icecream container full.
The actual LCD display contains platinium too, save them up & sell them by the bucket.
This is all unsubstantiated info at the moment, untill I actually do it & sell it, I am not 100%, 100% sure.

Thanks Eesakiwi. My long term goal will be to get into pm recovery, so I save all the stuff like that for eventual processing.
