job or no job, should i take it

OK, so this guy flags me down. he wants to scrap a marinette cabin cruiser made of aluminum. says i have to take all stainless and wood and gauges off. then wants me to put it on a trailer and then haul it in for clean aluminum.no problem but he wants to pay 25% should i stand firm on 50% or would it be worth it to come down a bit. take into consideration that i usually do not bring the big truck out for less than 1/2 much less do any work on things like that. if it wasn't already half stripped i would not touch it for less than 75%. alright i am going fishing and will check back later, let me know.this is a pic of a similar boathttp://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...starboard2.jpg

Personally, I wouldn't take any job for less than 50% and that's for just throwing it on the trailer and hauling it in. There's actually a lot of work involved here. What are you supposed to do with the wood?

Tell him if he strips it and gets it ready for the scrap yard you'll do it for 40%. Otherwise, don't do it for less than 75% of the ticket.

Stand firm and offer him 50 % of the alum sale. You keep the steel, stainless, etc. and you need to dispose of the rest. Or give him 60% of the alum, you keep the other metal and he gets rid of the wood and trash!

stack the trash by the road for bulk pickup he wants to keep all the railings for another boat and i will stand firm at 50%. i thought my bid was a bit low, but he still looked at me like i was crazy. he had someone over working on it already and he skipped out most likely with quite a few draws on pay. now he is trying to pass his loss onto me i think.that is what you get with a 25% man, a 25% job.

we have only done this a few times, but %50 is what we do and stick with it or we dont do it at all. hold out for the 50 he will come around trust me i know, theres not many guys or gals like us with the gumption to take on such jobs and have the ability to get it done, and im not sure about the railings your talking about but it sounds like your going to be doing some work for free unless ive read it wrong.

not much for free just bow railings and other small handles and fittings.it is a little bit of work but not too hard with a screw gun. whatever it takes to get the deal done, just so i do not take one up the rear on this deal.i think he thinks i am one of those things you see at the scrapyard sometimes that stays up all night and never sleeps/eats, nope i just work 14/6to feed my kids and support my fishing/old car habit.if he does not come around soon he will be sol unless he will let my girlfriend handle it as i start rigging out the boat to go fishing next week and will not have any free time till nov 1.

The other thing to watch out for is the AL. Make sure its clean. My yard will with large loads run it under the big Crane magnet. If anything moves they downgrade it to dirty. Be careful of hidden steel. Good luck.

I wouldn't touch it if sum one else has been into it first I bet the gravy is. Done long gone, but wouldn't even consider it for less than 50% less he's getting rid of all the lumber

We do alot of percentage deals. Many of them for 30% but they are specific jobs that we can pull in unload the skid steer max the trailer out in 20 min of loading and roll out. Or quickly load hoppers and be out. I wouldnt touch a job like that boat for less than 50% and I would have to talk myself into it. I am guessing the guy is a something for nothing type and I bet the last guy got sick of it and took what he wanted as he walked off. We are a bit diffrent than many hear as we dont break alot down to the smallest individule pieces. We look at it as best bang for the buck/time.

he has already talked to the yard and secured a .50 per pound price at 95% Ali with the yard taking it down to manageable size, we just get it there mostly clean. most of the hard work is already done, just little things left. I think he is trying to get over on someone, not going to be me. I would hate to have to have to take him to court and have that money tied up till i get a judgement, he is a real estate agent so he is a professional con artist in my opinion. if anything does happen with this job there will be a noterized contract before I touch anything.

good call, he came back and now all i have to do is hookup and go.only 5 loaded miles and 15 total unloaded round trip miles from home, 1/2 day at worst. i will settle for 25% because I have to do nothing but drive and make shure the yard scales are rite. i will weigh first and after unloading on some cat scales .I do not trust the yard he wants to use. pay is a little low but he will have house cleanouts for me. also he has a large building that he has been thinking of opening an auction house in, but has no auctioneer. I have been thinking of opening an auction house also and have planned to send the ol'lady to school to learn the trade and get liscenced once i get back to work in a couple of weeks.then i will go to school for the same thing, along with my 100/200 ton master mate liscence. next winter will be very long for me.

Well... what happened?

sorry for the delay, have been rigging out the boat i work on but my girlfriend is going to tow it in tomorrow. i am kinda sad because i can't do it myself because some unexpected things came up on the work boat that i have to attend to. will let yall' know what it brings total for future refrence. other yards wanted to take .10 or .05 less due to size, so i will have to use the yard i do not like.ie: employs illegals, questionable weights and generally sorry service, but the customer negotiated the price with the yard, and the customer is always rite. still going to weigh on the truck stop scales before and after to make shure the weight is rite. thinking about storing it for some time for the customer if maybe we can get a knickle or more as he said he would make it worth my while.either way i will let you know how/where it goes.anyone making any bets on ali futures?

weight was 4,180 stripped to clean aluminum @.50 per pound payed $2,090.00 . weight on the whole rig was 13,700 with a aluminum trailer that was not included in sale weight.
