A couple of quick e-waste breakdown questions

As I break things down, I find that I'm not always sure where I should stop. So, I'm hoping to get a little help from the experts.

Gold connector ends: There are only three left that I'm not sure if they contain gold or not - (1) USB ends, (2) Fan wire ends, & (3) Power supply wire ends. They only take a second to cut off, but if there's no gold, it's not worth it since my buyer doesn't care if they're on or off.

Hard drive magnets: Should I separate them from the permalloy or not? They seem to be glued on, but a soak in acetone fixes that.

The fan and power supplies have no gold ends and you should never put those in with gold ends. The USB cord ends are gold but you need to ask your buyer if he wants those or not. Some do and some don't.

It may not be worth your time to brake the hard drives down. Find out how long it takes you to brake one down and find out if its worth it or not. You can make alittle more money doing so...but I (Easy Recycle as a company) has found its not worth the man hours it takes.

Hey Mike, do you cut all the misc ends of and does your yard take them? If they do what do they take them as?

Misc ends do have a market if graded right (hardly ever done right to start) but the brass cord ends do have value but they need to be trimmed tight (as little copper left on). The other ends need to be graded and boxed right but there are very other types other than the plug end that goes into the wall.

Look at the ends in question, then look at what they plug into. Gold always plugs into gold. The only end that's not gold on a power supply is the end that plugs into the wall like Easy stated. Hypo, your board buyer will buy the gold ends. I've just been saving the brass ends till I get a bucket full, then I'll worry about it. Gus was using a ball mill to clean stuff like this up, I believe.

If the hard drives work you would get more if you left them whole and found a buyer of working items like PartTimeScrapper. That is if they have enough mb. i didn't know that buyers were interested in magnets... I just stuck mine all over the house

I sell my hard drives whole but I have taken a few apart. I use some of them in my gun safe with cloth glued on them as it will prevent the gun from getting scratched but will hold the gun where I want it. If you glue one under the table its a great place to hide a handgun.

The some magnets will hold up a fully loaded 12gauge shotgun but it will need to be the bigger server magnets tho.
