Screwdriver Bits
Does anybody have a cheap place to buy some nice screwdriver bits. I need quite a few of t27 bits. The ones around here are pretty expensive and they wear out so fast. I am separating some aluminum sliding doors. I have around 500+ screws that hold them together. They take quite a bit of force to get them out and all my bits strip right out after a few.
The t27 are the torx bits. Anybody have a brand they like the best? Does anybody have a recommendation of a place on-line to buy them? Do you think the more expensive bits are worth it? Thanks

Generally - you get what you pay for. Especially new.

If you have a local flee market you might want to check there, sometimes the guys that sell tools will have tubs of screw bits that you can buy separitly. I found at harbor freight you have to buy a whole set to get one bit.

Sears, Home Depot or Loews always have some kind of sale so try looking there first.

Are you sure it's a Torx? I only ask because I had a concession trailer a few years ago and needed to remove some screws for repair. One of my Torx would fit it, but barely and it would strip out. Went to the tool store to see what I needed, and the guy explained to me it takes a square drive bit. I guess it's Torx style for workers to zip it in quicker versus having to line it up to a square every time. (I'm sure there's a joke here somewhere...)
I hope what I just said makes sense.
If that isn't the issue and you need better bits, I see a few name brand bulk packs on ebay.

They don't sell Torx bits, but if you need star, square, flat, etc - try lee valley. I've used their bits for years in my woodworking business and their bits are the best I have found.

Thanks for the replies guys. Idaho I think they might be the same doors. They are the roll up ones off a beverage truck. Ill check that bit out.

Sorry, Dave, this won't help you but for scrappers wanting other size torx (and other kinds of) bits - Tractor Supply is selling a plastic box of 70 bits (with compartments by size) for $5.00.
The box includes three bits of each of t-10,15,20,25,30 and 40 size star drives - as well as other bit head types.

i got torx tips with some decking screws at Ace Hardware and they're holding up real well

Idaho may be right as well - if it's an 8-sided star, you need a square head, not a torx.
You get what you pay for - Harbor Freight and Tractor Supply are ok, but most of their tools are really what I consider light-duty. Don't know if you've got a Graingers anywhere near you (there are 4 in Minnesota, but two of them are in the St. Paul/Bloomington area, but that's where I go for heavier duty tools. They've got a T27 impact bit for $4.91 http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/WES...YZ4?Pid=search That will probably handle just about anything you can throw at it. At the least, you'll be stripping the screws rather than the bit :)

Thanks guys. Ill try some of your guys tips out. I don't care if a few don't come out. The really stuborn ones I can just break off the roller and unscrew it with a pipe wrench. I have around 540lbs, so it will definatly be worth it. Thanks again.
