I scored a pool heater

Hello everyone,

I know it has been a while since I have posted here, but I have been busy working an hourly job and trying to line up loads where I live, just yesterday I had a call from a guy that saw my craigslist ad and he was wondering if I would pick up a pool heater, I told him that I would pick it on Monday evening.

I have no idea or knowledge about a pool heater and I am wondering if anyone has any ideas about this, is this a good thing or is it just a waste of my time and gas, I am open to any suggestions from anyone.:)

Ya they are good! Last one I had was $75 in copper. I have another one that I have yet to cut up but I expect another $60.

That sounds cool, I will find out when I break it down and haul it off to the yard, I am hoping that I can get at least a cool $100 for it.

Well XZAV38, pool heaters are a wind fall that will make you some nice coin, the big difference between a a/c unit and a pool heater is the copper rig inside. On pool heaters the water from the pool circulates thru what looks like a round tube with possibly four or five rings they can weigh as much as 65-70 lbs and are solid number two copper some times from the outside looking in you can see the rig should be a big plus for your day, some times they are sprayed with a light coast of black paint just put your file on it you we see the copper, good for you.

Thank you, this is the first time that I get a call like that, I will keep everyone posted on what I made off of it, and I am going to try to have some pic to go with it, I hope.

I tossed one of these in with the shred a few weeks ago. I had no idea there was all that copper in there!

I found one ONCE! I thought it was a furnace lol! I got 80.00 of red brass / copper from it plus the shred!! Nice score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok let me also say that the a/c units that have a water cooled system, this is where the water runs thru the unit, they are self contained. They also have these rings in them, this type are not solid copper they are called nickel copper, not a total loss they are and should be mixed in with your clean electric motors.

I found one about a week ago. I personally think they are one of the best items to get. Mine had huge brass pieces but not very much CU $60 in the pocket

Pool heaters are similar to a/c units in that there are all different models sizes and brands, the larger the unit the more goodies, in my area most pool heaters are for large in ground pools and they are good scores, hope yours are the same, we also go to the job site if the contractor wants us to go there because it's easier and more cost effective than paying his men for there time hauling junk around, that's why I loved the scrap business. Those type of a/c systems, is what I call a chiller system, I had the opportunity to install a 4inch copper line to one years ago, I would love to get my hands on one.

Now that's what I'm talking about, that is what I want to get my hands on, even though I would have to break them down on site, but it would be a awesome haul for me.

Well it is a awesome haul for every body, those type of units we do on a regular basis. The one on my flat bed trailer was from a public school, the two in the street,had a cousin the three cooled a shopping mall in Miami.If you are not familiar with these the one in the yard has a what we call a barrel the end sticking out with the steel pipe. The barrel is filled with number two copper lines I can't remember what that copper weighed, but they range from six hundred to eighteen hundred pounds of copper in each barrel.

thanks for the pictures! Oddly I got pools all around me, an never see the suckers. I think I need to pay a visit to a couple pool installers.
