Converting a vehicle to natural gas

Anyone have any experience with this? I am thinking about converting my truck over and was wondering what the costs are associated with converting a v6 over to it. I have a fill station not far from my house. I have read where the tanks wont hold more then what would be 14 gallons of unleaded gas. Which would cause me to fill up twice as much as usual. Like I said I am just looking for input. I have read online where the kits cost about 2 grand or a little more and the gas company has a fill station that costs 1.89 100 cf at least that's what I think the measurement is. Anyhow its way cheaper then gas about half the price. Thanks.

Here's what I hope is a related question. I was thinking some big companies are using natural gas powered vehicles. Has anyone seen any on the used /auction market? Ok back to the oringal thread, Mike.

I grew up with propane powered tractors and pick-ups and loved it! Even worked for a service company for a while that had propane powered vans. You can fill them up everywhere and could never understand why it never took off mainstream. Why build out a CNG network when propane is already out there.

yeah i seen on tv the other day some old man was 82 and was a billionare had his cars run off of natural gas and said it only cost him like $1.00 a gallon.

Seems like I remember seeing a thread on this very subject on here on the forum, PistoneScrap. I'll try to find it.

I have found a few companies that sell the kits for around 2000 or under my only question is. I have a 2011 f-150 with the ecoboost. Do they even have a conversion kit for it? I am gonna find out 2morrow I have a few e-mails out to those companies right now and I expect to hear back from them and will keep every one updated.

There's a few vehicles on ebay. Trucks, a few cars, even a bus.

have worked on converted cng vehicles in the past, at the time there were several compaines producing systems. the systems we worked on were able to switch back and forth between cng and gasoline, cng was the primary fuel and gasoline was secondary. when the vehicle switched between fuel sources they would stumble. the fuel economy wasnt good, im sure it would be better if they were dedicated cng, if they were dedicated cng the tune up would have been for burning cng and not for being able to burn both fuels.
if i had a cng station that i could fill up at and i would always be able to run cng that i would do the conversion, if you are thinking of being able to run both fuel sources, i would not want the hassle. just my .02

Nipsco has all their service and sales vehicles running on natural gas, should have it down to a science by now, and yes there was a good discussion about all this.

Said on Fox News this morning that Government Motors was going to start selling a truck that ran on natural gas.

how much is propane per gallon or whatever?

Just had a 2012 F-150 Eco-boost converted to CNG... While surfing around in an effort to see if anyone else had the same converted I found this forum. I introduced CNG into my place of employment several years ago, with great success. We have 2) 2012 bi-fuel 14ft. box trucks (ford & chevy), 3) dedicated cargo vans ( 2 ford, 1 dodge all 2000), 1) 1999 dodge pick-up, 1) 1999 caviler, 2) clark forklifts and 1) 2012 F-150 Eco-boost. More than willing to share the resourses and knowledge I have collected over the past 5 years.

I toyed with idea of putting my pick up but diddnt because found out unless you have a motor built for nat gas or propane the performance isnt great. Both propane and nat gas require higher compression to really get any power from it

How is the 2012 F150 Ecoboot running? What did it cost and who did the conversion? I've also been given the job or converting our light duty trucks to CNG. We have CNG station all around us at $1.86 to $2.25 per gallon. Thanks.

Theres a few other things, like harder valve seats as theres no lubricant in propane.

In NZ we have LPG & petrol & CNG & diesol. During the 80's & 90's there was a lot of cars going to CNG (North island NZ) & LPG (South island NZ) from petrol.
But most of the cars that use it now are the 80's & 90's cars, or they are fitout to run on gas from brand new.
The odd small truck or housebus may convert over because of the huge short time fuel expense.

Petrol has risin 100% since 2000 & LPG gas rised at the same time/amount. Petrol here is NZ$2.20 Litre & diesol is $1.10 Litre. NZ$1 is worth US$0.82
So petrol here is worth US$1.70 litre?

Hey there. I have a hundred of them. 2 tanks, mounts, regulators, and other controls. They came off 2012 Chev 3500 P.U. Whole setup for $200.

SO what do you do if you are driving somewhere long distance or unfamiliar to you. There is a gas station on every corner, what happens if you are close to empty and need more?
