Any surgestion on this would be nice

I had a guy call me a few days ago and asked if I would be willing to accept 500.00 to haul off computer he needed move I said I would have not problem doing it Yesterday I made the 40 mile trip To pick up the computer with my truck and trailer needless to say I had to call 2 friends that owned 18 wheelers to pick this up for me I ended up having 2 18 wheelers full and my truck and trailer full of complete computers. What would your surgestions on be to get these broke down I have a total of 3 employes to do this. But have been told these cant sit around with out agriculture comming down on me and not knowing I dont want to take a chance with them so need to get broke down fast anyone have ideas how to break down 1000s of computers with in days I have been tempted to just sell them whole to move them fast but cant watch that kind of money go out these doors like that. I plan to haul the cases to my scrap yard but the rest plan to send to a buyer on here

Would have to check and see if we have temp agency out in this area but a good idea to check into

Could you rent some 40' containers? Frequently they are delivered and you can rent them by the month. If you rented 3 of them you could put everything inside and no one would know what you have in the container. I ended up buying one and it has been fantastic. Just an idea...

Get a dumpster from your scrap yard for the shred it will save you a lot of time. it will afect the pricing, but the real money is in the boards.

you also may want to sort them a little bit so you do similar ones at the same time, it goes faster when you are doing the same computer over and over.

save the difficult ones for last, your goal is to make your pile smaller as fast as you can.

good idea. i'd get enough help so you can organize a disassembly line. give each person a specific job in the process and you should have it sorted within days.

me too

get a couple dumpsters. one for steel at the beginning and the other ones to hold all of the towers. when you finish a tower just throw the casing in and move on to the next one. approximately how many towers do you have? you could also use a skidsteer or something like that to move them around and to crush the cases. if you do not have one, it would be worth it to rent one. hope this helps.

You could also look for warehouses for rent, and try to strike a deal to use it for a week or two.

Or maybe rent a storage unit temporarily to put them in and then you can break them down at your leisure. Out of sight, out of mind.

a rough estimate would definitely come in handy if you plan to hire help and have a specific deadline. if you set up a disassembly line and each step requires 1 minute to complete then you could sort approximately 500 towers per day.

You know the 40' container would not be a bad idea as can always us the extra storage all I know is the 2 ladies that work with me are ready to kill me for this load but not the first time they wanted to kill me for a load. I think I am going to check into this one and see what it would cost to get one in the mean time I will just work on breaking down them as fast as I can and get the pile lower and lower each day all I know is I have 104 palets of computers and looks to be 40 to 60 per palet. So yea talked with a few friends and they can come help so I am about to have a fun day teaching 4 new girls how to break down a computer me and 6 girls working tommorrow this should be fun

Find a good company close, have them deliver, keep it for a month or two! Then have them come pick it up. I've heard of people renting these between $75 and $250 per month.

I personally liked the storage unit idea. You could easily rent a storage unit for 50.00 a month. 6 of them would only be 300 and you would make that back by NOT getting extra help. Get a few pallets set up and take them apart at the storage facility. Shread goes into the truck/trailer, everything else goes in a few different gaylords. I could break down all of them in a month that way.

A while back I rented a 10X30' for $80 a month, it had a garage door on each end.

Thats the route I would go,stuff a few step back catch your breath and dive in. But if already on your property do the container idea.

trouble with storage you won't likely have forklift or dock there
Getting them broke down fast and the cases( power supplies too) to scrapyard will remove a lot of clutter. If your yard isn't familiar with power supplies open one up and discuss it with them, they should be able to classify them with motors, or at least better than shred
Being able to know if a computer is either too vintage/new to scrap takes experience, probably best put your most experienced worker at the sort position
Many will wish they had your problem(not me, but i'd like half your problem ; )

be careful hiring temp help. they can eat up your profits very quickly if they don't know what they are doing. you would be better off hiring an e waste person who can sort the stuff for you to maximize your profits. hows the weather down there :) ? or rather over there. seriously some one who knows what they are doing can save you hundreds, and make you thousands with correct depopulation and sorting.

How much room do you have to store and break down? Do you have a workshop/warehouse? Do you have a forklift. If you answered yes to these questions then I would just break everything down and put everything in seperate gay lords,mobo's,finger bo, pci cards, cd/dvd drives, power suply, then get with a buyer from the forum and make arangments for shipping. I wouldn't break down the drives or the power suplies to save time. Save the ribbon cable for latter and have the ladies cut the connectors off after you have the computers broke down.Nobody will come down on you if you keep them on the pallets and inside, if you leave them out side then someone might report you(out of sight-out of mind) That's how my friend got find big time(for storing electronics out side on the ground and someone reported him to the city). Go to harbor freight buy some large tarps and cover everything up, if you shred or sell it off you are losing a great thing. With 3 employees you should be able to finish all that within 2 weeks get started!

So, Matt- if you feel you're overwhelmed, I can come down Sunday with a Ford F150, a 4x8 trailer, and enough cash to fill them both at 4 bucks a tower if you're interested. I'm dead serious.

Let me be clearer/specific. I'll come Sunday with $400 folding cash, and take 100 towers off your hands. I have plans Sunday, but they'll understand if I break them for something like this.

I was serious about seeing if I could buy 100-150 of his computers also. Anyway, I PM'd him and he said that he has broken them down already and is looking for an ewaste buyer (As he said in his other thread).

He broke down over 4000 computers in two days? I would like to know how he did that.

I would suggest letting easyrecycle (in Little Elm) and HLH&R (in Waxahatchie) bid on it, and see how that goes. There's another guy in Mesquite... ddelatorre? Something like that. Three bidders should give ya an idea who's who.

Interesting thread... I'm thinking that with 5000-ish computers, TRANSPORTATION would be the issue I needed help with... not breakdown, storage, selling, etc. Interesting that OP had transport easily handled but the easy three issues were what he was requesting help with. :confused:

Great job breaking down all those in just 2 days with inexperienced help, too. Perhaps OP could share how he accomplished that?

4,000 units / 6 people /2 days =333.3333 units each for a n00b??? If they worked 12 hours day that 2.2 minutes per unit without any breaks ............................. I call BS.

Any pictures, i would like to see what 5000 motherboards look like. At a pound each on average thats 2.5 tons, plus 5000 procesors plus all that ram. I would be looking to get it refined and not selling to a buyer. Just my .02

I believe ddlatore there in Mesquite has a processing facility, and will go either way with it, buy it outright or process agreement

I can't really see somebody having that large a load of computers at random, they either had been stacking up for years in a warehouse or something, meaning there must have been a large number of older, higher bearing boards in a load like that
