Got this sucker for free. To wide to fit on the trailer. Was thinking of bringing my gas powerd air compressor, impact gun and sockets and take it apart. How would you guys tackle it? Also have a few other things i got free. Iv attached a pic.

Just a quick thought. How about cutting the chute and "tongue" with a Sawzall and pull it sideways onto the trailer?
Or take it off the axle. Still be too wide?
Well, my first thought is that it IS a trailer, just get some tires good enough to hold air. I've moved lots of farm equipment that way if you don't have to go too far. Second thought, is that a John Deere model 12A? I can't tell exactly, but if so, it will have its own hit and miss gas engine on it under the cover on the right side. That engine alone could be worth more than the whole thing in scrap. If it doesn't have the gas engine and is tractor powered, you still may be able to sell parts from it.
If you must take it apart, I'd suggest a torch instead of sockets if you can get one. That thing has over 50 years of rust in the threads and will cost you a lot of effort to get apart.
A last thought, what about a skid truck. I know they can haul that, I hauled one on my low boy semi trailer. Some of the guys will only charge around $50 to make a short haul to a scrap yard for you if they don't have to worry about damaging the item being hauled.
i agree with pnutfarmer and check it for good parts. if you do dismantle it if you have a big enough air set up put you impact on tighten and snap the bolts off, thats what i do even if im repairing it its not worth trying to take a rusty nut and bolt apart, if you torch it be carefull you dont start a fire with whater may be dried out inside it
winch it on your trailer as far as it will go strap it down and drive away. I removed one kinda like that last year. every bolt screw will be rusted to sh@t.
i laid a couple pieces of 2x4s down for the axle to slide up. the tires just hung over the sides of the deck. it was real back heavy (because it was on the back couple feet of the trailer) but i got the tires right up behind the wheel wells and away i went with the 4 ways on right to the wreckers. winch er up from behind and away you go lol
waste of time taking that apart, turn and burn.
or put a yield sign on the back and tow it.
I've done two of these, but had the benefit of a loader and flat bed. If those are not available I would torch off the hopper and the front chute and load separately. The rest of the combine I would pull as is if possible or torch off the tongue and skid on the trailer sideways.
There's about $500 in value there. The weight comes from the frame and two big steel rollers located right behind the chute. Those spoke rims are also worth at least $20 each as "garden art".
Good luck!
Only issue with towing it is its in stayner. Im coming from barrie. Bout 30 min drive. And i can only go get er after 5... So gottai go home with it first. Gonna see if i can some how ger er on the traiker
Good scrapper rule of thumb:
"If it doesn't fit, make it fit!"
That's actually very dangerous. Having a back heavy load can send your trailer out of control at highway speeds, pretty quickly. It's really not safe to have a load distributed unevenly on your trailer, especially if it's a heavy load such as farm equipment. What can happen is your trailer's back end will start swaying left to right, which can be violent enough to roll over or result in a serious accident.
View this video from about the 1:00 mark, you will see the uhaul trailer swaying left to right. Lucky the guy didn't lose it but it's a perfect demonstration of what could potentially happen with a poorly loaded (particularly back-heavy), unbalanced trailer.
U-haul trailer sway of death - YouTube
you are very right admin level and proper loading there are many horror stories .I am cdl A driver and had some very close calls and even the fluids in equipment can throw it off i would dismantle parts of it throw in truck then place on trailer ..just my thought
were talking about a paved country back road not hiway speeds here. i know the Barrie area where he lives quit well i don't expect him to hit the 400 hiway at a 140km pr/hr. i'm just saying winch er on and strap it down throw the 4 ways on and casher in. nice and easy wins the race
your video is a 4 lane interstate, you think I'm that dumb lol my guys call me the "strap nazi" come on now
id say its just as dangerous to be driving with a laptop open recording not paying attention if you want to talk about safty
Im gonna take my trailer and see what i can do. Maybe take a bit apart and see if itll winch up sideways. If not i dont know lol ill figure it out. Worst case i need to load it up kinda sketchy, secure the sh!t out of it and do 40 and throw the 4 ways on. Then take it down to the yard the next morning. Too bad i have to do it after hours. Midwest metals is 10 mins away from this place.
If i ever end up owning a yard ill stay open late a few days a week. This only open till 5 thing really screws me up.
bankers hours are a thing of the past tha's why i went to TD bank lol open when your off work. i used to dream of my own yard now its more of a transfer station lol
Lol im with PC financial. All free. I will never in a million years pay a bank to hold my money. But I do think yards need to start staying open later, even just a day or two a week. Guarantee they'd get a lot more business.
Really screws me up cause i reaaally dont wanna drive around town with that thing on my trailer all sketchy and whatnot....
Gonna see if i can haul it up as far up as it can go, till it hits the wheel wells, then try and jack the axle up onto the wheel wells and over. That might work.
it will bring a few pieces of lumber and slide it over. i was with PC for years but they kept messing up my automatic withdrawal for my (old) car payments. moneys in the bank but kept bouncing.
Thats the plan. Should have lots of room once its passed the wheels. Gonna take some redneck rigging and a few choice words but ill get er done. Gonna bring some extra chains. That sum b!tch wont move an inch.
Heres the trailer. Ill cut some of the machine off if i have to.
well i would take the sawzall or torch and cut it up and load it.
My Gawd Jord.. I haven't seen a "Free" sign on Anything like that EVER.. You are killing it out there brotha! Scoop em up, haul em in, DOUGH Ray ME Baby! Whoot!!
Im actually so greatful that the scrap gods are treating me well. This guys also got what looks like a 5 ft high half piece of silo, a 200L oil tank, an 8'x8' galvanized steel shed, an ollld camper trailer if we want it(will probably pass dont think yards take em here) and just got a call a little while ago to pick up a parted out jetta FREE. Unreal. I cannot believe it. Very helpful when trying to start a small business (see signature) very greatful.
Thank you scrap gods! (maybe they feel bad cause prices are so low ;) )
i keep coming back to this thread, i love that pic, i keep thinking i should use that on my web site,
ps: i just picked up my first roof top hvac unit, 700lbs, 50 bucks, i should do ok on it.
pss: i finally got a parts truck last night, not much left but will be able to get a few things off of it i'll post pics later jord.
Ahah it was a cool piece. I found a parts truck too with a built trans but the stupid idiot wont email or call me back!!! Weird its like they dont wanna make any money. My clock spring just went too so cruise and horn dont work... Ughhh
By the way, speaking of trucks and old stuff, if you or anyone in ontario sees a comolete 49-53 GMC or Chev pick up, lemme know. Me and dad are lookin to buy one to restore. Actually just gonna get the body nice, raw it and drive it.
Found a beauty 49 Fargo with a dumo box, immediately thought of a scrappin truck. Looked so cool and was already in running and driving condition. 3800 bucks.
that fargo would be nice, i'd leave it all rusty and clear coat it, throw some logos on the doors, so many motor options
the parts truck i got is a 02 1500 HD, my friend parted it out and i got what was left for full scrap price (F*cker) he grew up in a bone yard so he thinks he knows what everything is worth.... lol anyways ya no box, axles seats but i did get a front drive shaft for my truck and a head light. going to try and get the all the glass out of it tonight or tomorrow. i really need the wind shield i might have to get a CVOR sticker for my truck in the near future. sold the front fenders and the rad/ hoses to the kid next door. that almost paid for the truck :) has a nice class 5 hitch i'm going to use for my winch on my trailer, good wiper motor....man its like xmas. I'm just going to tell my ol lady to get me a parts truck for birthdays and xmas.
the demo derby is tomorrow night so i gota get it done i need my trailer empty, might get a car or two
Yeah i love the old raw and rusted look. Not a fan of the fords either. I like the ones with a split window. That fargo is on barrie kijiji. Its not bad lookin at all.
Bossman towed a 45 day impound and it was a 99 ram. Hope he doesnt come back for it ahahah
I am all for scrapping but this, as a farm equipment collector has some value to it. Postings on Yesterdays Tractors.com are free and you will make more than scrap. there is a great bunch of guys over there and I hate to see this get melted, parting this out or selling to a collector will make you nice money on this. Not too many pull type combines around any more. I hate to see this, "Made ill in Illinois, melted in Shanghai"
-hwstem
Heard this same sang n dance a million times! Are you really gona scrap that ? It's worth way more scrap. Ok then you want to buy it ? No, not really. It's how it goes every time, well, screw that ! One in the hand beats two in the bush. Besides that, it's free ! Had I seen that I would've hooked right on to towed it home. Tires flat ? I for one don't care, at 25 mph it doesn't matter. Usually only takes a couple miles before the chunks of tires quit flying off. Although inconsiderate, towing something, or even driving something with flat tires, isn't technically illegal.
If its any comfort i didnt end up picking it up. The deal fell through. Im all for saving old vehicles, equipment, tools, etc as well. Love the history. Hopefully i can find a truck like i was talkin about before. Save it from the claw. Or worse... A chop job.... Lol
I do try to sell or part stuff like that out. But i also wont sit with it for ages. If i get zero interest, she gone! Unless its something i think is cool. In still sick over that old truck you scrapped... Lmao Woulda givin you double the scrap value. Hell probably more... Lol
And for the record, if i had done that and the 5-O caught me, i might as well cut my licence up on the spot. No tollerance for stuff like that up here... Careless driving, dangerous driving, unsafe load, etc etc... I was charged with careless before, cause i bumped A VW golf with my truck on the hwy in heavy traffic... Yeah, if i was careless i woulda slammed into it at 60 per and kept goin. But yet someone hit a kid in a school zone yesterday and got failure to yield..... Like... What? What a jooooke the law is. Mine was thrown out by the way. Probably cause of how STUPID and REDICULOUS the cop was that charged me.
Uh ohh... Here I go again with the ranting LOL
That's why I glad I live in Kansas. They let farmers run buck wild round here so if you "look" like a farmers chances are a good mean mugging is all you get from the federalies.
If you tow it with a tractor and put a yeild sign on tje back, youd be suprised what you can get away with up here jord
did you ever scrap this?
what where the issues you couldnt haul it?
Trailer belongs to bossman, so i got permission to use it for the job. Gave him all the info and last second he told me that because of the liability and that it had the potential to be very unsafe, he wasnt gonna let me use it. Also had time restraints on it. He needed the thing gone by friday. Was gonna go load it up on thurs. But cause of the last second cancellation i didnt have the time to even chop it up. Was really bummed.
