Would like to know what some of your sayings are that you repeat often & that are about scrap money. Or sayings you tell people to educate them on scrap. Sayings dont have to rhyme or be funny but it is ok if they do.
For example I often tell people "The more buckets you have, the more you'll make".
I get flack from some of the guys on the crew that works at the site I also do. I pick up a little piece of sheet metal and throw it into the truck. I just say: "Every Ounce Counts"
I can relate to that. I always say "every little bit adds up"
It' may not be much, but it all adds up eventually.
I also tell folks when buying cars:
As long as they pay less $ than: (Curb Weight X Current Sheet Steel Price)... They will Never Lose $ on any vehicle they buy!
I don't have a saying, but I can relate a discovery.
Having been a hoarder (is that possible - "having been"?) I often tell people who will listen that I can keep something for
25 years, not have had a use for it yet, and be persuaded by swmbo to dispose of it.
The human mind is a powerful thing. The very next day, or at least in the next week or so, that item I was persuaded to
chuck out will suddenly turn out to have been ideal for a project I'm working on. What do you guys say in the USA - Go Figure?

That was once a way of life here too scrappa, but it wasn't called "hoarding", it was called "surviving. Even during the dark days of the great depression and the dust bowl there was little scrapping being done, if people lacked work, they'd throw a hoe across their shoulder and go looking for some. There was a saying here then, "use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without", which people lived by to a large degree. Those were things that helped us win the second world war. Although people had tons of scrap on the farm they hadn't sold it off, but during the war, they gave it to "Uncle Sam" who turned it by the billions of tons into tanks, planes, battleships, bullets, and anything else it would make. When the next world war comes, and it will come, we're going to be in a mess.Quote:

I get a lot of "how much is scrap nowadays?"
I just tell them 0.07 cents a pound! And let them do the math! Most are surprised by the answer.
When I find a stray piece of copper wire when sweeping the floor I always pick them up and throw it in the copper bucket and say...
"Its worth more than on the floor."
Or when loading the truck or organizing the garage at night and the steel falls over with that extra loud crash i say..
"Thats exactly what I wanted to happen."
My ex-wife used to tell me all the time that I was a packrat. Always asking "why are you keeping that? Just get rid of it." I always told her that "everything has value." My current wife laughs with me all the way to the bank.

I dont know how many times at work Ive seen someone throwing away metal & i say “Wait, Ill take that“. i like it when i catch them, then i dont have to get it out of the dumpster
People always ask me where I sell the stuff to (these are the people who have told me that they want to start scrapping to because they see me making money off of it :rolleyes:). I tell them "it's a secret, but I'll give ya a hint... Somewhere".Quote:

Sledge, That one's definitely my most used.
I have also been known to use the term "orange gold" and "drive slow look fast" but I got that one from another member.
Oh and I save all my transformers from microwaves for any unforeseen times of need, I call it my employment insurance and if you don't get that wine then you've never broken down a transformer!
