how are the prices holding up? getting about 50 or more pounds of copper by this weekend. i havnt been in sense november so im not sure how the prices are, but i have heard they shot up during the winter. let me know guys, thank you.
also do you guys think the tsunami in japan has anything to do with the scrap prices? ive heard the scrap prices tend to follow the stock market, which has been shooting down sense the tsunami. what are your opinions?
#1 Copper at OneSteel in Oakland and Kennebec Scrap Iron in Oakland is $3.35/lb - up .50 since November. Really hard to tell what scrap prices are going to do. Japan will need a lot for rebuilding, but they now have a lot of scrap to flood the market. The stock market will come back as soon as investors settle down.
There's also speculation that the earthquakes and tsunami could send Japan into a downward spiral and recession. It's only speculation, but that doesn't sound good for the metals market
thanks mick, i just checked my receipt's and in oct. 15 it was 2.75 a pd for #1. in july it was only at 2.25. Not sure why, but i love keeping my receipts. hopefully the prices wont take a huge drop...
Since last week copper has gone down .40 lb...not good!
Last week #1 copper at my yard was 3.80/lb. and #2 was 3.55/lb. Yesterday it went for #1 at 3.50/lb. and #2 for 3.10/lb.
Interesting to see where it all goes from here.

Non-Ferrous prices have dropped in the last week, here in SC.
The yard that I use has dropped back to prices similar to Nov 2010.
Bare/Bright is down from 3.55 to 3.00
and the other grades with similar drops.
Stainless down .05 to .85 for #304
AL Cans still at .80
Regular ferrous/shred is holding at $12.50 on the 100lbs
Some of these prices dropped overnight, SO, if you guys are buying copper to resell, you sure better keep up with it on a daily basis, as you could lose money quickly!!

those prices are great, I know there are yards paying more but most pay alot less. Some paying $2.oo per lb for copper.
I would think the opposite, scrap prices will probibly go up due to the tsunami, they will need a lot of iron, copper, aluminum, alloys etc... to rebuild. This goes back to supply and demand.
well i got 50+ pounds of copper just today, getting more tomorrow. ill be preparing it and hopefully be bring it back this week sometime. ill let you know what i get for a price
Called my usual yard this morning, and they are buying No. 2 copper for $1.80/lb. Three weeks ago it was $3.20. Called another yard and they are buying at $2.65/lb.
Which is funny, since the spot price this morning is around $4.40lb, which is higher than it was three weeks ago.
Guess I won't be selling copper today.
seem to be about the same here 225-240 for light iron 275-290 for long steel and 310-350 for short. .20 cents a pound for electric motors and 1.75 a pound for brass radiators just took a load about an hour ago
I dont think steel prices wil go down becuase that stuff mostly goes to china not japan.Japan is where most of the non ferrous stuff goes.
Had my wife take in a load this morning. Here's a few prices that I remeber. I will post the rest when I look at the list.

i also got about 20 pounds of stainless but its magnetic... should i just throw it in with my tin pile? i heard the non magnetic stuff is the stuff they want

thanks mick and the irrationalist. I went to a yard in newport maine instead of the one in glenburn (which i usually go to) both are almost exactly the same distance away from my place... the prices were just a little bit better there on some things
