Forum stuck on Mark as Read

Hello,

I seem to be having an issue every time I come to the site, nothing shows in new posts, or group posts for me. I have to click on the "last 24 hour" link to see threads for the day. Never had this issue before, an when I did a simple logging out an back in would fix it. That isn't so now. Can ya'll take a look an see whats gone all wonky back there? Dunno if others are having the issue, but it's highly annoying.

I may not be posting much of late, but I do still read posts, or at lest try to. ;)

I will definitely have a look into that issue. Have you tried clearing you cookies? Also what browser are you using?

I have to clear my browsing data about once a month or this website will not work properly, I would try it and see if it helps.

Firefox is what I'm using Andrew. Been using it since I started coming here. :)

Yes tried the cookies thing an routinely clean out all that good stuff. The one or two times I've experienced this before a simple log in an log out would work(I usually just stay logged in). It's been...3 months now or so? Maybe a tad longer. I want to say it started up right around the time my old hd died back in april or so.

Maybe it's my punishment for the whole goat thing. Maybe it's a "feature" of windows 10. Ha!

Anyhow my thanks for looking into it.

Cookies with this forum have always had issues for me. I use chrome and it will do exactly what SirS says, and also switch to desktop site on my mobile. Clearing cookies has only been a very short solution...usually lasts a couple visits.

Its the goat filter. Make sure you switch it to off!!!!!

I know exactly what is causing your issue Sir and was going to help, but after that Tennessee comment the other day I'll have to sip on this glass of sweet tea and think about it.

Might even have me an RC and a Moon Pie.

Could be your cache on your PC. Here is how to clear it. First, hold down CTRL and push F5 at the same time, that will refresh your cache.

@Jimi go visit the football thread, I've sent a whole lot of "love" towards your sports teams. Make sure you have a pop also! Sledge can break you into the rest of the terms those mid-westers use.

Yes I've been to the football thread and someone mentioned a 12 deep league? I'm totally ignorant when it comes to fantasy football, but that sounds a little dirty. Is that where the fantasy part comes in?

You are right about those pink, blue and yellow packets. There is no substitute for sugar.

Guys ... just a suggestion:

Download & install CCleaner. ( Free version )

Run it every time you close out your browser.

You won't have any more problems with the forum and it will keep a lot of junk from piling up on your hard drive. :)

actually I have a VERY robust system with all sort of security...and yes I know all about CC cleaner...that is not the problem. There has been a change, update or something on the site's forum software or the site itself. I have NEVER had this issue in the past until a few days ago and I know quite a bit about computers and websites (just sayin). Something changed or was upgraded and now apparently Firefox (Sirscrapalot) AND Chrome (myself and others) is at least affected.

Definitely something the admin needs to look into. I can get to the new threads, but you go to the weird screen and it has a link to look at thread that have been updated in the last 24 hours. So yeah, I can MAKE it work, but it is a PITA.

I have an use CCleaner quite a bit...still ain't helping my issue with the forums. I thank you for the suggestion tho! It's not fixing my issue but perhaps it will for some others. This..bug/feature, came out of the blue. As a member since 2012, I've never had this issue happen but once or twice in the past, an logging out an back in worked to fix it. It's not now though, so I've had to come here an find out the why. It's not doing it to any other forums I post on or visit.

An again...like WBSTS said, I can see new posts if I jump through a lot of hoops. Here's the process for me.

1. Click whats new. See little box with a note in it that says.."No new posts in 24 hours, click here to see those posts" or something like that.
2. Click the click here.
3. See all posts/threads for last 24 hours...old ones separated from the most current(it was 5 before I came to this thread.)
4. Repeat every time I visit the forum.
5. Beat head against wall.

So here I am....addressing the giant elephant in the room. ;) An while it makes me feel a little better I'm not the only one, it sucks to know it is affecting some others. I don't know as much about computers like Webuy, an some of our other computer gurus, but I know enough to know...something changed an it wasn't on my system. An what worked just fine for 4 years..is now acting wonky.

Once again...thanks for all the suggestions folks. An for those of you having the same issue, thank you for sharing. They cant' fix what is broken if we don't let them know, an all that jazz.

I was having trouble with my New Posts about a month ago when a lot of other people were having the same problem.

The problem was being reported to admin but my problem wasn't resolved until I contacted admin.

Open a support ticket if you haven't already. It took about a week for my issue to get resolved.

< shrugs > The CCleaner was just a suggestion. I use it to clean out the cache EVERY time I close the browser which might be five or ten times a day. (Only takes a few seconds.)

What you guys are running into may well be a forum thing or a combination of things. Could partially be a windows thing. Windows 10 seems to be especially difficult to work with. Doesn't seem to matter which browser you're using, the windows browser processes are still running in the background logging data on how you're using your machine.

To give you some idea .... I gave a win 7 machine that had been upgraded to win 10 a tune up last week. It was a 600 gb hard drive. I pared down the used space on the drive from 260GB down to about 22 GB. Most of the junk that was cleared out was the record keeping that the windows system routinely does.

Now ... I get that some guys like to hoard their junk but ????? ;)

I was having trouble with my New Posts about a month ago when a lot of other people were having the same problem.

Last 48 hours I am having the same problem as Post 1 >>

Scroll to the top of this page and click on the Support tab and you can create a support ticket.

Same thing happens for me no matter which browser I'm using.

The problem is related to when a mod deletes a post something screws up the forum data base.

Hmmm , I was not really paying attention or maybe I don't seem to have this problem. I log out when I leave the site. Am using latest version of Chrome. I also log in on multiple different computers almost daily. I also zap my history on a regular basis.
I'll pay more attention now . When I click on New Posts they are usually bolded until I read them.

Ok , I logged out and then back in again to SMF. I had not read all of the latest posts. Now when I click on new posts there is nothing showing at all as if there are no new posts. Strange, time for a drink...

2/12/17: Having this issue now too.
No "What's New" threads
Tells me to wait 10 seconds.. I can wait 30 seconds and still nothing.

Been that way for me off and on for the last 2 weeks

Be sure and open a ticket at the SMF Support Center.

I have a support ticket submitted for the new posts not refreshing ( hence why I have been posting so little on the main forum ) lately I have noticed my search results are not working as well . Anyone else having this problem ? If not post a link to any threads related to screen boards . Hope it's back to normal soon .

This seems to be happening alot more lately... but I was always able to at least search for threads updated "today".

Now, when I click that, I get this irritating screen no matter how long I wait.

YEP. Not expecting any better response to this one than the first two got. But I thought I'd give it a try. Seems to be working fine on my phone, and I do believe that my ragtag old computer is just about to give up the ghost.
