So, how many of you have been laid off because of this cornona bs?
Working from home. My job can be done 100% remote and I had the option to work from home some even before the corona. So... Overall, I'm considering myself very fortunate to still have a job.
Well ... i don't exactly know as i would call it corona bs. It's getting pretty real. The state of Maine is going into lockdown tomorrow. I doubt they will enforce it, but, we are looking at a penalty of up to 1,000.00$ fine & six months in jail for violating the stay at home order.
If that doesn't " flatten the curve " .... we're likely looking at stronger measures.
At this point i almost wish i were laid off, but my job is considered to be in essential services. The situation is changing day by day though. I do wonder if there will come a point where they shut down my end of the company and re-deploy me to a different job where i would be more useful. Possibly, working in even closer proximity with the public than i am right now.
About all i can do is hold turn and try to keep my sense of humor in a difficult situation.
I thought I would be worse off, but I have actually had a job every day this week... Knock on wood. My wife, on the other hand, works in healthcare with HealthSouth and has been laid off indefinitely.
Hills, forgive me if I have asked and forgot, but where in Maine are you? My wife is from Woodland (actually Baileyville, they changed the name because there was another Woodand in the state and there was only allowed to be one)near Calais, down east by the Canadian border.Quote:

One of the lucky ones to still be working full time. Split my time on site vs. working from home. I will re-iterate what hills said, definitely don't think this is BS. However, not to sound insensitive, I'm okay with thinning the heard a bit, theres too many people in the world anyways.

It’s upsetting that a corrupt communist government lied the whole time and continues to lie in the name of pride and control. All life is precious and we need to respect that. “Thinning the heard” is part of nature and the world we live in to a degree. That doesn’t mean we have to agree with it or fail to try to stop it.
I didn't mean to start any drama lol. I was just making a point. Whatever happens is going to happen no matter what we say here lol.
It is interesting to see that nature is returning to some areas, mountains that weren't visible before (due to air pollution) are now visible, and a ton of other environmental issues are starting to get better since this quarintine... Just an observation
Not that that means thinning the heard is good, not that many people have died yet.... But... It does show we have the power (even without dying) to do better at not polluting and such

Taiwan, South Korea and the US all discovered Covid-19 cases around the same day but only the first two acted like it was important and took measures to test, track and suppress transmission and are experiencing vary mild disruptions because of it. The US did close to nothing for around a month and a half. China's failings in this are many and some are unforgiveable. But they are also out of our control and the measures taken in places like Taiwan and South Korea shows that there was enough time and information to take action. So yes blame China for what they've done wrong but China isn't the reason that Nevada where I live is expected to be hit worst so far as the economic part, that's because the US, like the UK and Spain and some other countries also now reeling, response was to just do nothing but watch.Quote:

I tend to look at it the way a naturalist would. Take a black bear for instance. It takes quite a bit to keep his belly full. He needs a certain number of square miles of land for forage. Put two bears into that space and they're going to have to fight for that territory.

I am one of the at-risk individuals. As far as culling the herd, nature has used this tool repeatedly throughout history and even before. I am following the government recommendations, not because of fear for myself, but to avoid responsibility for the damage I could do to others. Dealing with a virus that targets the elderly and weak is better than one that targets the entire population. Would it hurt if I lost my wife or friends from the virus - yes. At the same time it would not hurt as much as losing a grandchild that has not had the opportunity to enjoy the life that many others have. My generation would accept our fate in order for future generations to flourish. Therefore culling the herd is not insensitive, just a fact of life.
In regard to over population or over consumption, mother nature will take care of it.
