Hey everyone, It's definitely been a while but now I'm back in the game! Just found a 50" flat screen in the dumpster and was wondering what the scrap value might be in it. The screen is completely shattered on the inside. The outside glass is still in tact. It turns on fine and the sound works but obviously no picture. I tried doing a search but nothing came up so sorry if this is a repost. Thanks everyone and it's good to be back!
The best way to find out is to just break it down and take it in. Then you can let us know the value.
Try searching eBay with the make and model with the word "board". It should bring up circuit boards for repairs of that model. Some go for quite alot more than scrap. I need a power supply board for a Sony Bravia.?

So yeah I ended up breaking it down. It took about an hour but It's a 50" LGPS11 I still have most of the boards in tact that I have sitting aside right now and I'm taking the rest of it in in the morning to check that out. Inside I found a very small amount of copper, a pretty good amount of aluminum heatsinks are on the boards. I got a ton of steel from it as well. I think the steel on the back of the main panel may be stainless but it's crazy heavy. So I'll let everyone know what I got on that stuff a little later on.
We took one big screen(can't remember the name) apart and it had a hi-grade board inside with gold pins all over it.
Check them real close before you pitch them,,
if you read past posts on here...you will know that its better to sell it as it is and not scrap it. It may not be working but it could be fixed and or parted out..Look into that before you go ripping it all apart.
Yeah I looked in to that but since the screen was shattered it was beyond repair. I called a few tv shops and asked about it before I took it apart and they said the cost of the panel was more then the tv was worth so I should just get a new tv. I kept the tv stand, all the boards, and the power supply to sell separately since the only thing wrong with it was the shattered screen. So basically I only scrapped the steel out of it, the insulated wire. I got about 13 bucks from just steel yesterday and I'm pretty sure I got shafted on a lot of my other stuff because the total I made was 27 bucks (I only got .60/lb for my insulated wire and they counted my cans as cardboard just because I was using a cardboard box to hold them.) Unfortunately my yard doesn't tell how much they're paying you for everything until after you unload everything.
For those of you in the DFW area, I'm looking for a new yard that that's a little more honest. Any good recommendations? I live in Lewisville and right now I'm going to AAA Recycle.
wow they are going to pay you cardboard prices just because you put your can in the box? If thats the case use thier logic and take them a box of rocks.

Do a search on CL for the people who want to buy your LCD TV's that are broken, there's also a market for as is TV's on ebay but it's a bit of a hassle to pack and ship them.
I took apart a huge flat screen tv (literally the size of my truck bed). Fairly easy to tear down.. Attached to the glass was an aluminum heat sink the size of the entire tv, but had the glass glued to it. I haven't any easy way to remove it, any suggestions?

They are good and if you go into the office they will tell you what they are paying a head of time. Just keep an eye on the people by the two small scales as they will down grade scrap time to time so just ask them what they are grading it and you will be fine.
You are not far from me so all your e-waste scrap I will be more than happy to buy from you. I pay cash on the spot.

so these big 50in screen tv's, can they just be thrown in with the shred? I passed one on my way to sims metals but i was unsure if they would take it.
I seriously doubt it. There's more glass/plastic/wood than anything else in them.

its a Plasma, no wood, steel casing, very heavy
I talked to the owner, she said her son broke the screen but all else is fine.

I think you'd have more chance selling the parts for a big screen LCD since theres less chance of them having broken screens. & since the dollar value of a big screen is so high, even older ones would be worth fixing.
The connecting mylars. I read that they are gold inside too.(not just the connecting edges) Is that true?
I haven't seen wood in any of the big flat screens I've taken apart. Boat load of steel and aluminum, though.
They are pretty easy to get apart. Nice gold on the boards along the edges, don't forget those. They're super light, but they will add up.
I've got a box full of about 4 TV's worth of those boards, I'm going to have to check ebay and see what kind of action is out there on them.
plasma tv. i got this board out that seems to be worth money but its connected to the "buffer" boards and i cant detach them.
has anyone ever encountered these type of clips? it is off of a huge samsung

Im thinking about just cutting the board around the clips and letting the buyer disconnect them, lol
what is a good tool for cutting circuit boards?
I've dealt with a couple of those clips, in my experience they break easily enough. Had a buddy come through the other day with a old gateway flat screen, had those clips, we just broke them. Might be an easier way but if so someone else will have to chime in.
An yea..lots of alum, steel, and high grade boards in those things. Lots of **** screws tho.

We broke them at the clips, not the actual boards or anything. This was a older unit though, real nice high grade board was connected to a not so good board. So again we just broke it at the clips. Both boards still intact. Just the clip broken. Sure someone with tv repair exp, could tell ya how to do it without breaking the clips, but that person ain't me.

Just looks like a multi-pin plug in, you might try a wide straight edge screwdriver. Slide it into the gap between the boards and twist it to put pressure on both halves of the board. Pry on one side of the pins then the other.
Unless there's something locking them together that I'm not seeing. The friction is tight on those multiple pins. Hope it helps.
