Life of a small company owner who needed to rant

Some of you all work for your self, others work for someone or you run a company...some where in that mix you land.

Those who run a company...you know what I am talking about on this one lol.

But, for those who don't. Its 3:36am and I cant sleep...no coffee or tea...just sitting here in my bed. Just want to rant off somethings that I love..and HATE about running a company.

If you work for your self.. that's not a company...so try not to get that mixed up.

But lets start with some of the things I love,

even tho my pay could be as little as $50 for that whole week working my butt off (it happens....if nothing comes in...I make no money) it hurts yes...but..when I sit back and I can see that I am able to keep the people who work for me working...they have a roof over there heads and food in there belly... that's great (I try to hire people who really need a job bad and cant get one for one reason or another) so I am happy when I have work for them...it makes me smile.

days when I can sit down relax and not have to work...just because I don't want to, no boss to worry about coming around and yelling at me or this or that.

Just something about building something up from the ground up...building a company that not only me by my mother and father (with my mother becoming ill and my father in his late 50s) being able to "take" care of them the same as they had me.

being able to work hands who really want to work and being able to play and joke with them and be more of there friend than a boss....they work there butts off

being able to take my brothers to work with me for the day...even when one goes cutting his knuckle off on some Al heat sinks (yea them suckers are sharp now talk about a bloody mess)

knowing that I started this back in 2011 in my mother and fathers house after I lost my job along with everyone else..I lost my home my motorcycle...i lost alot of things during that time...but now..I am slowly getting my live back and my company is growing

(p.s...this is kinda in random order of a man who has not sleeped in a few days...this is your warring now)

The things I hate

not being able to help my family more

Not having time to date, the last girlfriend I had was back in mid 09..she had cheated on me when i was working 60hour weeks....I drove to her house every day (3hour drive there...and 3hour drive back to work..I was on night shift) and i could not get ALL of her honey to do list done...kinda happy i am out of that now..but i gave it my all...maybe why I have not tried to date much?

Always on the road...and when I am home...I sleep (well...not sleeping tonight lmao)

having to keep finding work for the people who work for me...that can get you down real fast when you have to sit down and tell them there is no work..and you dont know when there will be... that's hard...

being the guy with two trucks, trailers pallets, pallet jack and every other thing you need to move anything in the world.....you think it sucks getting a call to move someone...I GET ALL THE CALLS from family to friends to people who live on my street (help anyone and everyone if it wont kill you....it can down right save you later)

when you get to work...and I found out someone robbed me...if they really needed work that bad to feed there kids...i would of found something for them...i just hope it dose not to for drugs or beer

not being able to call into work and give them some fake story that I am sick...or even the truth when I really am sick!...for the most part...i still have to go as people on here and people who call or e-mail me from many other sites or from my own website....they will only talk to me for the most part

having your company on your mind all the time...having to worry to cover the companies bills let alone your OWN bills...my bills come last...my companies bills come first.


Things I miss about working for someone else...

I knew what I was worth that day...every day...had a check I could count on...unless I was laid off. (never been fired from a job...hardly ever took a sick day...and was at work 30mins soon...so I have time to have a slow start to the work day)

being able to cover all my bills AND put money into MY back account (I think I have spiders that moved into my private back account)


I think I will end it there...its not 4:09...spell checker is going crazy at me (not the best speller around) and talk about ranting....this is a long one of someone who just needed to type some where.

Ok..I think I have all the spelling right...if not..it the spell checkers fault not mine.

I had a big cup already! was up early , my wifes oxygen generater stopped last night at 1 am . It was the line it was all kinked up took over an hour to undo , we had her on the bottles until I fixed it

Buckle your boot straps Easy, as your finding some days are better then others. Then it turns into some months, some years, some decades. To be successful you have to constantly be able to evaluate and adjust because just when you think you have it all figured out someone or something will come along pull the rug out from under you. Then to top it off, you have to find time for the wife and kids.

Right there with you. Just keep moving the line forward.

yea its fun is all I can say...(I ended up playing xbox..call of duty lol) Getting ready for work now..time flew so kinda late

I feel for you. Everyone in my family has there own company. Watching them with all the paperwork, employeees, inventory, overhead, taxes, insurance, and endless hours to keep it running. Whow! that just made me tired thinking about it.

When I was reading your post I kept shaking my head. How do you do it? I'm sure you are doing a great job. Don't stress to much Easy!

Thank you for sharing with us easy. I hope a motherload (or a whale as olddude says) comes in today so you can sleep like a baby tonight.

I found many things that i could relate too in your post Easy.

All in a days work i reckon.

it will get worse. it might get better after time. might not.

it's like having kids. the terrible two's become fond memory's when they get old enough to date, drink and drive.

This is how you do it....you don't think about it...kinda like you have a huge mess...you dont think of the mess as a whole..you just start somewhere and keep going until your done...I just dont ever get done lmao but for everything I can say I hate...i have to say i love it at the same time.

I just woke up...a bottle of nightquil sure will do it fast...the funny part...my worker came to work...sat down looked at me and he SENT me home....said I look like **** and he told me to go home...I did not ask anything..I just went home lmao and went to bed.

Well hell..I can deal with everything other than the insomnia....working your tail off...and not being able to sleep....that could make one go crazy real fast

Having met you, Easy, I can't believe you aren't fighting the girls off with a stick.

Now, having said that, a few clues in your post tell me that maybe you are too nice, or too accommodating, or something along those lines. Don't get me wrong, women are to be treated well....but women like the challenge of pursuit as much as men do. If you come across too quickly as being eager to please and willing to drop everything to come over at a moments notice, that is a huge turn off, and you won't attract good women, and will instead attract ones who will use you for your time and money.

Just an observation.

Now, get yourself a free OK Cupid account set up (And don't tell too much about yourself in your profile! Leave girls something to want to learn for themselves!) and start flirting with some hot DFW honeys!

keep on keepin on, one foot in front of the other, you will get there. I see me 50 yrs ago. only hopefully a lot smarter.

Lol Enoch43 and thats the truth right there...even my own family says that. I am on a one dating website..just had not had much time to mess with it..will soon tho.

Next time you can come by this way you really need to see our new warehouse..its awesome.

Can't wait to get back down there! My wife and I would like to ditch the toddler at his grandparents for a nice 5 day weekend and drive down that way. Hit a show in Nashville, get some BBQ in Memphis, check out the old decaying resorts in Hot Springs, and then kick it in DFW for a couple days before driving back.

She is pregnant right now, though, new baby boy is due first week in May, so sometime after that.


But seriously, try out OKCupid! Its FREE, it has free apps for your phone, and there are tons of women you can check out and strike up a conversation with.

Well I was already crazy before I started my company so that part never really bothered me much lol.....For me it comes and goes....Like you I worry about my employees, work that has not gotten done, family and all that...But sometimes I just lay down and say "screw it" and that is when I can sleep. Why can I sleep? Because at the end of the day there Easy my friend, I am proud of what I have accomplished, no matter how difficult things are at the moment. So I am sure you are the same way. So sometimes you just have to tell the insomnia to kiss your back door and sleep like a rock.

Great summary easy, I stopped being an employee in 1994 and could not imagine ever going there again. I have found you do tend to work more when you are at the wheel,yet it does not have the abuse so many "jobs" have. 3 am is prime problem solving territory, keep a pad and pencil handy!! Buying can be very scary, had a call yesterday from a large hauler wanting to sell 4k of material (GULP!!)...here we go. Keep on scrappin'

the big deals are easy...you can flip them FAST if you need to...when you buy small loads it will take alot of time and labor before you have a load ready to go....during the waiting time is when you lose money...

If someone went to sell me 4k worth of items all ready clean and ready to go...I would just have it pass into my door and send it out a day later with what ever else I have ready to go if I feel that prices may drop.

I hope it is ready to go, I have a feeling it is going to be a mess, you are right about small loads though, tangled,unsorted,mish-mash and they want the best they can get!!!
