When i was burning of the plastic coating ( it was a few years ago.. ) from car wiring looms, where i had taken all of the outer tape & plastic wraping & plugs & little Brass connectors off, ie as clean as is possible.
I was getting a 2/3rds return.
So from 30 Kg of plastic coated wire, i was getting at the most 20kg of Copper wire back.
I was good at it too, setting it up to burn properly & cool quickly & washing it as soon as possible afterwards.
Thats what got me the last 6 - 16%.
But now i just sell my random wire 'as is' with the plastic coating on it, no plugs or connectors & only one layer of plastic insulation.
Its a lot of extra & very dirty work to burn it off, it does create a nice $ bonus, but the Environmental aspect is bigger now, they will go out of their way to stop people burning it off and find out who has.
I dont get as much wire now, dont need the extra $ as much, dont want the extra very very dirty work and im quite sure i dont want the attention either.
But, 2/3's Copper return is probably a high average.
If you have not figured out all of the tips & tricks of burning, you would be lucky to get 50% Copper back.
I wouldn't even think of burning off in America..
