No offense $5000 is nothing to a scrap yard.......I wish you all the luck in the world..........Many variables with wire.......I would get all my ducks in a row before I handed over the cash

I would call that yard or better yet go in person and See what they want per pound. Try to negotiate a deal Offer cash then buy with your $4000. If you can do a few sucessful deals then consider the $50000. Watch out for bad weights and low grade(extension cords etc) mixed w romex. And good luck. Keep us posted
Very true about the quality and grade of the stuff, could be a big mess of as what copperli said, cord and romex, or copper 1-2 mix. But i figure if i can get the right connect with a lot of good stuff at a decent price, i can make some good money
The best way to make money on a deal like this would be to invest in a good electric wire stripper. Buy the wire for 1.54 # and sell for close to 3.00 #. My 2 cents.
And don't forget to budget a Finder's Fee if someone finds the source for you.

If someone can find me a connection lll definetly pay a good price
could I suggest gov't surplus.......I have seen tons and tons of wire sold online through Gov't Liquidation sites.....Just register and bid!!!
And whats this website called ? And seriously, let me know if any of you can get you hands on a serious amount of scrap. Ill be glad to do busniess with you

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked
Thanks for the tip on reading old threads Miked, but thats all i do from dawn till dusk and i just havent came across something along those lines. Never even seen or heard about government auctions before but will definetly check em out
if you were interested in doing this, why not put an ad in CL in the area of the yard that is paying .80, and offer .90, see if you get any hits on that from other scrappers in the area, don't tell them what you are doing, just buy it and if you get enough to run a load up and make .62/lb, go for it. I wouldn't be trying to buy from the yard, I'd buy from the guys that are selling it to them before they got there. And you KNOW, a lot of those scrappers are vulturing the living hell outta CL anyway. It would be seen.

For gov liquidation you need to be near the army/naval base they are selling it out of. Plus you will be up against scrap yards in that area. Most of the stuff for sale you are relying on the pictures they post. Final sale. Paying top dollar for a crapshoot. I'll pass
I find this hard to believe, as there are a LOT of threads on here talking about government auctions, but I do understand the search feature is not always friendly. Seriously, Google is your friend. Start searching for auctions in your town, county, state. Public auctions, government auctions, surplus auctions... the search terms are endless
~You have to start somewhere to get anywhere~
Great idea Phred, South Jersey craigslist is FILLED with scrappers that would love to make a few extra cents a pound. I really should post up an add and get all the scrappers around here to sell me loads. I just have to find a nearing state that pays a bit more than by me
Take note of the text I used in the search bar of the link below to do this search as it can be used with other keywords or phrase if you wrap the phrase in quotes.

If a yard is buyin at .80 they know what its worth..they wont sell to ya for 1.10
I buy from yards and pay 1.15 to 1.30 depending on wire but thats for #2 insulated which returns roughly 55%
They are buying at 80 because they can and are making alot!
The bottom line is that his whole business model is a hot mess. He is trying to buy from a middle man to sell to a middle man. This just isn't going to work no matter how you look at it. You are NOT going to drive 100 miles and buy from a yard you don't know and make any kind of money selling to another yard.
If you were going to sell it to a refinery, it would be different.
If you were stripping the wire, it would be different.
As others have pointed out, to think the yards are "stupid" and can't figure out that they can sell the wire to another yard 100 miles away for 1.50# is just flawed logic. KingKopper can't even get his math right, I think the yards blow him off as another nutcase they don't want to deal with.
This whole thread is "wishful thinking" trying to make a quick buck doing no work.
How about getting a scrap room membership so that you can post prices that you are willing to pay. I can't even take this serious unless I know what you would give me if I sent a Gaylord you're way.
Not to be a smart*** but I think it is like the mail truck and deposit can idea.
