    Arson investigators say a scrapper attempting to lift copper pipes from an abandoned property caused an explosion which ignited flames that then quickly spread to nearby residences.
    You are correct, not a real scrapper.
    But how did it ignite the flames, if their flames then their already ignited.

    Sounds like the person might have attempted to debraze/desweat the pipe and if they were gas lines... well there ya go. Flame + gas = boom.
