Nope, can't say I fell sorry. If these people are going to go into a building and purpously swipe copper(or anything else for that matter) without permission then they get whatever comes to em. It's the way the world works.

What pisses me off the most about this is they are referring to him as a scrapper. Nothing more than a common thief. When a teacher gets caught with a student, they don't say..." well those teachers are at it again," they talk about the person. Modern media....?????.....@#$%. Have a great day guys. Mike

You are correct, not a real scrapper.Arson investigators say a scrapper attempting to lift copper pipes from an abandoned property caused an explosion which ignited flames that then quickly spread to nearby residences.
But how did it ignite the flames, if their flames then their already ignited.

....Or he cut a gas line with a lit cigarette in his mouth!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
Perhaps he took a break to light up his rock pipe. Mike

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked
Cutting with a sawsall maybe made a spark. And I agree the story should have stated that a thief broke into a building and was stealing pipe.

I can't wait until post apocalyptic times when every city is like this. I'll be driving a vehicle with a flamethrower on it, wearing all leather, welcome to the thunderdome!
the term scrapper to many is a negative image. its the reason I never call myself a scrapper. there are no yards that I can think of in the mid Michigan area that call themselves scrap yards. they are all recycling centers or such and such iron and metal.
recycling centers give the people a warm fuzzy feeling that they are saving the world
