Thats soo true, its 'bar talk'. You know, stuff people say when they are drunk & want to impress someone they don't really know.
But, the scrapyards know it all.

I did get looked at queerly once when dropping off batterys. He asked me if I "topped them up with water".n
I go "****! Forgot about that..... I wanted to keep the acid for electroplating experiments.. Too late".

I would have just poured it into a container & not topped it up with water, just left it dry.
He checks them, nah, normal acid level. Puzzeled.

Only later I find out that 4wd drive & boat batterys have heavier plates to take the punishment.
They also last only 2/3rds of the time a normal car batterys does.

Hmm, boatyards.... A possible place to get batterys from. Someone who owns a boats not gonna muck around with dirty batterys & acids for a few $$. Get all that crisp white clothing dirty..nah.

Did you weigh each battery? Or did you weigh a few and multiply out the remaining?
I ask because in wet lead acid batteries the water does evaporate at different rates. If you are dealing witb 10,000 lbs at a shot, basically 100 batteries at a time the difference in water levels inside batteries could explain discrepency.
I have been doing solar battery banks and literally had two deep cycle batteries bought and used weigh 4 lbs different after 6 months...just my .02.

Weigh yourself!

Do it on your home scales, the scales at a Chemist (Drugstore) then at the scrapyard.

Get a idea of what you weigh (and when you need to go on a diet..) and how far out your home scales are.

Funny > I had weighed up a sack of metal @ 20 kgs. Got it to the yard, it came up as 19 kgs....
So as a joke I bent over the sack and blew downwards hard, the scale readout jumps by 1 kg to 20 kgs.

We laugh and he writes it down as 20kg.

Scales work on downwards force. Air brakes and blowing will push the scales down.

So, if you want better weights, put a few kids in the truck. They'll bounce up and down, and increase your weight reading.
