US & Canada Wheel Buyers

Hello.

I am a wheel buyer covering the US and Canada. I buy late model automotive wheels, both steel and aluminum. I am looking for late model wheels; my company refinishes and resells them as a lower cost alternative to new wheels.

I operate off of a buy list. If a particular wheel is on the list, we need it. If not, we do not need it.

We pay the following:

Aluminum - Approximately $30 a piece
Steel - $8 a piece
Wheel Covers (Hubcaps) - $4 a piece

Pricing can vary depending on the deal. We pay a per lb price on aluminum wheels sometimes as well.

We also buy tractor trailer loads of aluminum wheel scrap as well.

If you could pm me that list I would appreciate it. I emailed asking for it and they told me unless I could search Hollander numbers the list was useless then never sent the list. I use a core buyer that lets you search items by Hollander and will give you make model with a number. Thanks

Hello folks,

This is Chris, a.k.a. WheelBuyer. I just wanted to clarify some things in regard to some of the comments I've read on the thread.

I am literally a wheel buyer; I am in roll-off bins and in piles of wheels all day long, every day all over the country. I posted this ad, and created the Facebook page in order to try to generate some more business for myself and the buyers I have elsewhere in the country. I try my best to keep up with it, but as much as I am on the road, I sometimes lag behind in responding. So, I apologize for any frustration.

We currently have buyers in Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Arizona, Florida, and California. We go wherever we need to go if we find a good source for wheels, however. We are planning on adding buyers in Georgia, Texas & in the Northeast this year.

Here is a basic pricing guideline for good cores that we need:

Aluminum - $29-$32 each (These prices are in the general neighborhood. We pay less for some, and more for others, most often based on size.)
Steel - $8 each
Wheel Covers - $4 each

We have a Hollander based buy list that is updated weekly. I can email it to anyone who can use it. I have found that a lot of scrappers don't use Hollander at all, so I apologize for the run-around, if that was the way it may have seemed.

Not totally sure the best way to word this particular post, as I do not want to step on any toes, or to make it seem like an attack on anyone, so if anyone finds my post in any way offensive, it is NOT meant to be.

When you state late model wheels, how late model are we referring to here?

I ask, because where I am from, there is TONS of car clubs and buyers/sellers that belong to those car clubs. What would be the difference in selling to your firm, versus to selling to someone who owns a late model car that the wheel would go to?

Just curious is all. You got seem decent prices, if all anyone is looking for is a quick flip, and more than scrap.

Where is the facility in MD?

I just got done talking with Chris. He got all of the info to me that i needed. Most of what they are looking for is going to be 5-6 years old at the oldest. So it wont really work for me. The newest car on my lot right now is 9 years old.

When I say 'late model,' I mean 5-7 years old and newer for the most part. The majority of the wheels we sell are for body shop and rental car repairs. Most of the time when someone wrecks a 1993 Grand Am, they aren't going to be looking for a like-new wheel to get it rolling again. So, most of what we need are wheels that are still on cars that are newer and are considered worthwhile in getting them back to pristine condition.

We do sell some classic wheels for older cars like Vettes, Firebirds, Camaros, etc., but it is much more of a niche thing than a volume type of thing. For instance, we sell a lot more 2009 Carolla rims than we ever sell 1982 Camaro rims.

And as far as flipping wheels for more than scrap value, that is exactly what we do for scrap dealers. We give a better than scrap price for wheels we need. It helps us, as well as our vendors.

Okay, so next question would be, does your company just take the rims, or the entire wheel (rubber tire and all)

We prefer to buy the wheel only. We do buy the whole assembly at times, but we prefer to have the tire dismounted.

This is a very old thread. As to your question on used car parts I have installed many over the years in my own vehicles. Often are as good as new it just depends on the type of part and condition. Do you do much scrapping of auto parts in Istanbul? 73, Mike
