This without a doubt a fact. I sold some monolithic SMD capacitors earlier this year for a $0.50 a gram that was at about half of what they where worth. they where brand new and had a product# to get datasheets on them. The problem is that
not all contain values. this is why most companies won't buy them and why a refiner will more than likely only take them on a toll refining basses. If you are removing them from boards than a lot of your value is lost\mixed in with your solder. this should be collected to be refined as well. when you are doing this chip resistors are also on the board and they are made of the same elements so no need to separate them out. A Lot of the newer ones(monolithic SMD capacitors) contain no value the the Pd was replaced with Ni.
Some though hole caps that are mistaken for Tantalum caps are though hole monolithic cap. Do they contain values this I don't know but I can't see why they wouldn't.
