    I buy tantalum capacitors.

    $20.00Lb Wet electrolyte axial
    $15.00LB solid electrolyte axial
    $15.00LB polycoated axial,SMD,through hole
    $5.00LB foil style or arrays
    $50.00LB for prepared anodes
$75.00LB silver wet caps (no leads)

I included some examples of tantalum capacitors I have more at my blog

Any questions relating to Ta capacitors in general please post. Any deals please keep to PM’s but please review your dealings with me.

I also toll refine silver contacts and solder or jewelry. I can return cemented silver melted into bars or minted silver one TOz rounds.

I do other refining from e scrap and karat scrap on a toll refining basses.

I am buying silver Oxide batteries for 1.5X silver spot per a pound of batteries. 5Lb min

No its $25.00 for the pellet\foil\can that is tantalum. I pay $6.00# for the caps with the poly\non Tantalum can still on the pellet. A lot of the cans are not Tantalum some are though.

I reimburse shipping on larger amounts 10+# of cap or 3+# of pellet\foil\can that is tantalum.

how long it takes you to fill up a bucket is all depends on how you get them. If you get them as NOS on reals\bags then not to long. If you do a lot of Sun servers or ham radio\milli stuff there are a lot on those boards. most of the time if was expensive to procure than you will find some on them. Some older low grade boards will have them because they have been in use sense the 60's in test equipment radios some TV's.

    hope this helps

This without a doubt a fact. I sold some monolithic SMD capacitors earlier this year for a $0.50 a gram that was at about half of what they where worth. they where brand new and had a product# to get datasheets on them. The problem is that not all contain values. this is why most companies won't buy them and why a refiner will more than likely only take them on a toll refining basses. If you are removing them from boards than a lot of your value is lost\mixed in with your solder. this should be collected to be refined as well. when you are doing this chip resistors are also on the board and they are made of the same elements so no need to separate them out. A Lot of the newer ones(monolithic SMD capacitors) contain no value the the Pd was replaced with Ni.

Some though hole caps that are mistaken for Tantalum caps are though hole monolithic cap. Do they contain values this I don't know but I can't see why they wouldn't.

Thanks for your interest in my thread.

It looks like you have some network resister mix in with you caps. The Tantalum caps will for the MOST part only have two leads a (-) one and a marked (+) one. All of the rectangle ones should be Ta caps.

Hope this helps and thanks for saving them.

You seemed to have included some SMD ceramic caps (little brown ones). thees are good to save for other buyers if you depopulate boards. The back rectangles ones you need to check on the board to make sure you are removing the ones with a C###'s not ones with a D###'s The ones with a d and some #'s after it means that it is a diode not a Tantalum cap. Some of the other ones I can not see all that well so I will need a more clear picture. The second pic is of Al electrolytic caps. they are of no value to me. You referred to them as having a (-) marking this is a good way to differentiated them from Al caps tantalum caps are polarized on the (+) side.Tantalum can style will have the polarize (+) clearly marked look at my first pic and you can see that they have a weld in the (+) side or some other marking.

If you look at this picture from wiki you can see what I mean. the difference between Al and Ta caps polarity.

Let me know if you have any other question, and thanks for posting in the thread so other can get informed as well.

    Eric

So if I am looking on the board and it has C### (with C representing capacitor and # representing a number), and it has two leads then it should be a tantalum capacitor?

NO this is just the first step in IDing the Tantalum cap. Finding out if it is a capacitor or just a resistor or diode. After you see it is a capacitor you the match it to a style SMD or though hole (has two leads and is soldered though the board). SMD will look like the picture in your post except for a blue style the are all there. If the ate though hole than they will be poly coated or can style. both styles will have at least one magnetic lead it is nickel. If the are can style they will have leads coming out of the ends and will have a weld spot to a nickel lead. If they are poly coated they will look like the pics I have.

Post any questions you might have.

I'm glad to catch you early in the hunt.

network resistors are not worth any thing to me.

Hi Eric,I just started taking ta caps off of some old boards and want to make sure I get this right. If it has c## with a + on the board it is ta? A lot of the boards have what is in your pics like the yellow rectangles and silver and black caps.

I think a + on the capacitor is what identifies it. Although it's not always a +. It could be a mark or a line that just designates the + end.

The Proof is in the end that's not shown.

If the other side has a welded lead coming out of it your odds are in your favor.

Thanks for taking the tine to collect them.

Ah, no solder joint. Oh well! At least there were a bunch of the little orange guys on that board. I still haven't found any can type ones..

I get a lot of different electronics..these were from an old grocery store barcode scanner made in 1987. Ta caps, ceramic ics, gold pins, and the whole case was made out of approx 10 lbs of aluminum.

Can anybody give me and other members a clear representation of all Ta Caps. I had been pulling all the caps in the above picture. Including the silver and black cap ones.So I guess that was a waste of time!
