The Proof is in the end that's not shown.

If the other side has a welded lead coming out of it your odds are in your favor.

Thanks for taking the tine to collect them.

Ah, no solder joint. Oh well! At least there were a bunch of the little orange guys on that board. I still haven't found any can type ones..

I get a lot of different electronics..these were from an old grocery store barcode scanner made in 1987. Ta caps, ceramic ics, gold pins, and the whole case was made out of approx 10 lbs of aluminum.

Can anybody give me and other members a clear representation of all Ta Caps. I had been pulling all the caps in the above picture. Including the silver and black cap ones.So I guess that was a waste of time!

And are all of these Ta? Seems some have the same #s on top but one has a + sign by it, one doesn't:

The tantalum caps that I an buying are in my first post. What the "above" picture is showing is the marking of polarity. On tantalum caps the (+) is marked with a line or wire nipple. In the pic the first two SMD can caps are marked on the (-) side just as they are in auminer's pic with the polarity marked on the board and the line on the (-) side. The can cap in auminer's 1st pic ic not a Ta cap. look at the (+) and the line on the opposite side.

Thanks everyone for saving them and taking the time to discus this. I an here to help and answer any question.

    Eric

Thanks I have had some sale not like I had hoped but then no one was saving them till I said I would buy them.

As far as being patient I am a stay at home dad to 6 kids I think I loose my patients all the time.

If you just save the easy yellow ones I'm cool with that. people tend to make there life as difficult as they want. Most people on this forum don't take there boards apart so I'm looking for the person that bought a few pounds at auctions and need them moved or work at scrap yards and get a bunch in. But I will help anyone make there money too.

    Thanks again

I figured that you were looking for people that get them from HAMfests or liquidators either still on the reel or in stock room bins. True?

I am but if you have a pound I will buy them too. I know that stripping off the yellow ones takes no time at all and can make you a few dollars too.

Are you a HAM guy? If so let me know. I live buy one of the biggest HAM fest in the country so I think I will hit it up this year.

Not a radio guy, but ham fests are good places to buy old electronics. A lot still look for the old 386/486 pc's for programming old units.

OK I'm back after letting my head rest. Do you buy only the pellet or do you buy the whole cap? If you buy the whole cap I will save some up if not then it's not worth it to me. Seems like it will take alot of these to make a pound and even more if it's only the pellets. I have or can get the ceramic ones that look like a disk that has been dipped in something.

We're going to question you to death here, etack... THANK YOU for your patience.

So we've ruled out the big guy on the left, bummer... as to the kind circled at the far right, will all similar looking (that is, round off-yellow) Ta caps have the indicator as to which leg is positive? I see alot of similar appearing caps on boards, but neither the leg, nor the board indicates any polarity. I just want to make sure I'm not throwing away money... again...

What I've found is all of them that look like that are tantalum... They have no shape definition other than looking like a balloon. There are similar colored ones that have discs inside that look similar, but are not tantalum. Most of the balloon type ones I find on older electronics. Newer electronics mostly have the surface mount types. Still haven't found any can style ones.

Also, I've been noticing a lot of the time that there is a mark from a felt tip pen on ta caps a lot. Maybe for double checking correct polarity.

As I responded in your other post that looks like lead. and if you Google the part number you will see they are not tantalum. this is a listing for the same series not the actual part. 6 New Old Stock Large Sprague Atom Capacitors TVA 1214 10 | eBay

They are very much Al electrolyte capacitors.

    Have a good day

    Eric
