The one I tried to remove was white.

I just removed on that is pink. Came off in a couple pieces, but it was two straight pieces from an old electron gun off a projection screen. Didn't shatter, just broke into a couple parts. Going to try on some more from other electron guns I've saved for some odd reason. Will post up any tips I find to getting them off. So far a small flat head an fingers seems to work good, just slow. The glass I've removed wasn't attached to the metal but fit rather snugly into the cuts in the glass when it was made I guess.
Will post more later.

SirS should make a youtube video if he is successful :p
LOL...we both know I'd spend more time in the comments then making videos.
Besides, I'm going to buy stock in Brasscatcher productions when you go Youtube. ;)

Does anyone actually have a picture of what this guy will purchase? Please get back to me. Here is my email recyclereuseitall@gmail.com
links in his 1st post.. the colored bars running on either side.
Thanks, Brucie. I'm looking for the glass bars that are attached to electron tubes. They don't have to be the ones in the picture, those are only examples. Any color, style, size. Just look at an electron gun and it should be pretty self explanatory.
I can safely say..Monky is being truthful when you look at the gun. You'll see the bars in there. His links in his first post also show them.
I will be going after some more later on, right now it's snack time. lol.

Sorry for my bad joke
If you shoot a mime in the woods w a silencer does it make a sound?
MTP I expect band aids to be sent after I get some glass rounded up for you. :p
Who knew screwdrivers could be so sharp! lol. I won't be repeating that mistake again.
Just out of curiosity is there any other glass you look for? That we could help you find besides the ones in the electron gun? An Cajun..ya know this forum has it all, tips, tricks, knowledge, advice, quotes, an humor! We're a one stop shop! ;)
Sirscrapalot - I need a book of quotes. A good one.
I have to admit if you bought the whole electron gun thingy and removed the bars yourself you might do better..........I have about 300 crt monitors I'm getting ready to tackle because biz is kinda slow...........
Thanks, Mike. I've been thinking about it, but I'm a glassblower, not a scrapper and I feel like you guys could do a better job, in less time. I know scrapping is a skill that takes time, tools, and experience to master. If it's not worth it for you guys to rip them out then I'll definitely start looking into just the guns, but I figured I'd let the professionals handle it first. I don't know if I have the time to search out a bunch of electron guns and break them apart, but I figure if someone has them in front of them, and they're already scrapping stuff off of it, might add a few bucks to the final total. Let me know what happens with those 300 monitors. You'll probably have over 5 pounds of glass in there :)
Skyline, I surely will! Other then fighting with a screwdriver it's really not to bad. lol.
I will surely keep folks updated tho!
Sirscrapalot - Freeze! I got an electron gun an I'm not afraid to use it!
i'll set some to the side and see how it goes..........Started today on the hoard........LOL.........I have them stored in 3 or 4 different places........LOL
Can this be done without making an absolute mess of the tube? I know breaking the tubes it generally a big no no
The only breaking you should be doing to the tube, is either breaking the electron gun assembly off, or removing it attached. I've ended up doing it both ways. What I find to work the best, is to smack around the non-leaded glass (what covers the eg), an pulling the part with the glass MTP is looking for out, an then breaking it down from there. If you do snap the eg off, you can do it right above where the leaded part starts. I don't suggest this method unless you can get rid of that little bit of glass with no issue. I can. no breaking laws for me in this area. So no yelling people. ;)
I'll try an get some pics later when I'm down in the shop. Maybe that will help a bit better. Oh on the EG assembly, it should come out as one piece, bunch of metal, etc an the glass he's looking for right there. You can see it when your looking at the EG, which is nice, cause you can determine the color, etc. They are in all the tubes far as I can tell, from the big ones to the little ones in a project screen.
The tricky part is in getting them off the EG without turning them into bits of glass dust. Pieces I'm breaking off, are coming off more whole then not, but that's been through trial an error. I just use a screw driver, an go from there. Break where it's connected to the metal an you'll have a couple whole pieces, the really hard part is getting the glass with the metal attached. Depending on the size of the piece, determines if I continue with it or not, sometimes it's tiny enough it's not worth bothering with. I got to find my needle nose, once I do I think that might make it easier breaking the glass he's looking for off. Their small enough to get in an twist that metal off from the other.
Hope some of that makes sense...if not..well, chalk it up to the rain. ;)
